The 36th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Awards Program will be held Thursday, Jan. 11, at 6 p.m. at the Casino Live Hotel Ballroom in Hanover, Md. Dignitaries attending will include Maryland Governor Wes Moore, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen, Congressman John Sarbanes, County Executive Steuart Pittman, and Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley. The keynote speaker will be Congressman Jonathan Jackson, the youngest son of Rev. Jesse Jackson and godson to Dr. King. Governor Moore will also provide comments at the event.

 “Het is al jaren een grote wens van ons bedrijf om een muziektheaterproductie over het fascinerende leven van Josephine Baker te brengen,” laat creatief producent Hans Cornelissen weten. “Zij is nog altijd ‘s werelds bekendste revuester. Al in 2016 hadden we vergevorderde plannen voor een voorstelling over Josephine Baker. Maar omdat toen ook de plannen voor onze musical over Liesbeth List opeens concreet werden, zagen we ervan af. Vorig jaar kregen we een vernieuwd script in handen. Dat was vrijwel gelijk met de repetities voor Les Misérables, waarin Channah Hewitt de rol van Fantine speelt. Toen viel alles samen. In Channah hebben we ‘onze’ Josephine Baker gevonden.”
