Playwrights Horizons today announced its 2022–2023 season. Brought together amidst the easing of a reality-altering pandemic —during which desire for a “return to normal” began to feel at once futile and shortsighted—the lineup consists of five works that consider and radically challenge the very idea of normalcy.

La Mirada will present The Sound of Music beginning in April! The show stars Diane Phelan (Broadway: The King and I & South Pacific at Lincoln Center) as “Maria,” Christopher Carl (Broadway: South Pacific at Lincoln Center, Mamma Mia!) as “Captain von Trapp,” and Grammy nominee Suzanna Guzmán (The King and Iwith Yul Brynner, Bizet’s Carmen) as “Mother Abbess.'

Ensemble Theatre Company (ETC) presents the third show of its 2021-2022 season live on stage, David Cale’s LILLIAN starring Nancy Travis. Previewing on March 3rd, LILLIAN opens March 5th at The New Vic in Santa Barbara. Dallas Theater Center (DTC) celebrates 30 years with one of the city's most talented actors, Liz Mikel. She made her debut on the DTC mainstage in 1991, appearing in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Since then, Mikel has been featured in multiple DTC productions and currently features in Cake Ladies at the Dee & Charles Wyly Theatre as Tweedy-Bird, a character written specifically for her.

The season will focus on conservation and recovery, as Loft is one of the few NoHo Arts District theatres to make it through the pandemic. The season's theme is de novo — anew, from the beginning. 

After more than three decades leading creative operations for one of America’s largest theaters, Tony Award-winner Robert Falls is ending his tenure as Artistic Director of Goodman Theatre. Today, Falls announced his intention to step down next summer at the completion of the current 2021/2022 Season.

With the slogan “Theatre In These Trying Times”, the 25th edition of the festival has set out to breathe fresh air into both the world of theatre and to theatre lovers with a programme of mostly new productions that look at the world, which is in search of a new normal, through the lens of theatre.
