The Shaw Festival is mourning the death of Christopher Newton, former artistic director, who died peacefully yesterday morning at the age of 85. Tonight, NBC will air its sixth live musical production. Following in the footsteps of The Sound of Music, Peter Pan, The Wiz, Hairspray, and Jesus Christ Superstar, the peacock network will be presenting Annie. Based on Harold Gray's comic strip titled Little Orphan Annie, this musical tells the story of a little orphan with equal measures of pluck and positivity who charms everyone's hearts, despite a next-to-nothing start in New York City in the year 1933.

The show by actor/playwright Terry Ray is set in a motel room, and the first two years were actually performed at INNDulge in a motel room with an audience of 20 serving as flies on the wall, watching the action.  Fortunately, the show has transferred to Oscar’s dinner theatre in the middle of town which enables about triple the audience, comfortable tables and chairs, and some really terrific food!

La Jolla Playhouse has announced the first four productions of its 2022/2023 season. The Artists' Legacy Foundation has announced that Nancy Rubins (b. 1952)-celebrated for her innovative sculptural practice-is the recipient of its 2021 Artist Award. The unrestricted merit award of $25,000 is given to a visual artist whose primary medium is painting or sculpture in recognition of their professional achievements.

The Music Center, Los Angeles County's performing arts center, announced that Fredric Roberts, an emeritus member of its board of directors and founding chairman of The Music Center's Spotlight, made a $2.5 million dollar gift to endow the position of The Music Center's Spotlight director.

ELIZABETH IRELAND McCANN, the iconoclastic Broadway producer who won nine Tony Awards during a 60-year career in theater, died after a bout with cancer on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, according to her longtime associate and friend, Kristen Luciani.  She was 90 years old. 

On Wednesday, September 22 between 9 and 10 pm,  WQXR.ORG  'The Young Artists Showcase' will feature First Prize Gold Medal Winner of this year's Arthur Rubinstein International Juan Perez Floristan.
