Last night, PEN America spotlighted diverse voices and bestowed $330,000 of transformative support to writers and translators at the 2020 PEN America Literary Awards, hosted by Late Night's Seth Meyers at The Town Hall, the biggest venue in the Awards program's 56-year history. The show demonstrated the evolution of the Awards in recent years from a modest auditorium event for winners and their families into a preeminent gathering of writers and publishing luminaries, stars of the stage and screen, and passionate book lovers-or, as Meyers referred to it, 'The Oscars for books.'

La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts Will Hold Re-Dedication Ceremony to Sculpture 'Canto 79'

The 40th Anniversary of the monumental theme sculpture that welcomes patrons to La Mirada Theatre For The Performing Arts  will be celebrated at a re-dedication ceremony this Saturday, November 2nd at 4:45 PM at the theatre (14900 La Mirada Blvd., La Mirada).  Created by the internationally acclaimed artist Joseph L. Young, the sculpture - entitled 'Canto 79' (or 'Song of 79') - remains a stunning example of civic art.  The fascinating story of its creation and Young's unique vision will be the focus of guest speakers Daniel Paul, the notable architectural historian, and the sculptor's daughters, Cecily and Leslie Young.  Attendees will receive a free exclusive souvenir program filled with Young's conceptual sketches, rare pictures of the sculpture during its fabrication, and coverage of its unveiling in 1979.

New Home For George Street Playhouse Opens Tonight

George Street Playhouse has a new home at the brand new NBPAC (New Brunswick Performing Arts Center) which also serves as the resident home for American Repertory Ballet, Crossroads Theatre Company and the Mason Gross School of the Arts. The new cultural venue is set to open this evening (Wednesday) with an invitational gala at 6 pm at the Elizabeth Ross Johnson Theater, the larger of the two state-of-the-art theatres at NBPAC. This special event will feature two musical numbers performed by the stars of George Street Playhouse's upcoming engagement of the new musical LAST DAYS OF SUMMER, based on the best-selling novel by Steve Kruger and directed by Jeff Calhoun (GREASE, NEWSIES). CROSSING THE LINE Festival 2019 Announced At FIAF

The French Institute Alliance Fran aise (FIAF), New York's premier French cultural and language center, today announced the 2019 Crossing the Line Festival, featuring 11 performances and a gallery exhibition from a geographically, generationally, and artistically diverse group of artists whose work transcends genres and boundaries. All performances are world, US, or New York premieres; they are united by their convention-breaking fearlessness as they confront topics from social injustice to personal demons. Many of the performances pay homage to legendary artists of our time and previous eras, while the theme of migration and its transformational effects on identity informs several others.
