The METAs Announce Nominees For The 2017-18 Season

At a community and media event held at the Monument-National's cafe on Thursday September 6th, The Montreal English Theatre Awards Committee announced the nominees for this year's Awards Ceremony. The Montreal English Theatre Awards (METAs) recognize and celebrate outstanding artistic work in Montreal's English Theatre. Established in 2012, the peer-juried awards exist to promote professional and emerging English theatre artists and companies, to heighten their visibility both regionally and beyond, and to elevate the level of critical discourse about theatre in Montreal amongst artists and with the community at large. American Theatre Wing Gala Honoring Andrew Lloyd Webber Raises Record-Breaking $1.6+ Million

The American Theatre Wing announced today that its annual Gala, which honored newly minted EGOT recipient Andrew Lloyd Webber last night at Cipriani 42nd Street, raised a record breaking total of $1,652,502 in support of the Wing's programs and the Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative Legacy Fund, breaking all previous records. Totem Pole Playhouse Adds Extra Seating To Accommodate MAMMA MIA! Opening

Totem Pole Playhouse, America's beloved summer theatre, located in Caledonia State Park between Gettysburg and Chambersburg, PA, has announced that the Playhouse's production of the mega-hit Broadway musical Mamma Mia! set a new box office record for advance ticket sales in the Playhouse's 68-year history. To date, over $280,000.00 in tickets have been sold putting the show on track to surpass last season's box office record-breaking production of Million Dollar Quartet. Due to the high demand for tickets, Totem Pole is reopening the 42-seat Club Section in the rear of the historic theatre which was removed several seasons ago. Mamma Mia! will begin performances this Friday at 8PM and Saturday at 2PM and 8PM with three low cost $20.00 general admission previews followed by the official Opening Sunday afternoon at 2PM. The production is scheduled to run through August 19th, a week longer than the previous three shows in the summer season. (more...)

Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced the selection of four Honorees who will receive the 2018 Kennedy Center Honors for lifetime artistic achievements, and a special Honors distinction for a work of art and its co-creators. Recipients to be honored at the 41st annual national celebration of the arts are: singer and actress Cher, composer and pianist Philip Glass, Country music entertainer Reba McEntire, and jazz saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter. This year, the co-creators of Hamilton-writer and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda, director Thomas Kail, choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler, and music director Alex Lacamoire-will receive a unique Kennedy Center Honors as trailblazing creators of a transformative work that defies category. Arvada Center Awarded CTG Henry For Outstanding Theatre Season

Arvada Center productions, directors, actors, and designers were recognized on July 23 at the Colorado Theatre Guild's 13th annual Henry Awards. The Arvada Center won or tied for eight of the 29 nominations it received, including three awards for Sense and Sensibility, directed by Lynne Collins. The 29 nominations were also the most nominations netted by a Colorado theatre in the history of the awards. The Center received the evening's highest honor - Outstanding Season for a Theatre Company - for the first time since 2012. LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS Completes The Broadway At Music Circus Season

The final show in the critically acclaimed 2018 Broadway At Music Circus season is the series premiere of the hit musical comedy Little Shop of Horrors, which features a cast of Broadway veterans and is based on the campy 1960s cult horror film. The show's music, by master composer Alan Menken (Disney's Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Newsies, Aladdin), is in the style of 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop and early Motown, and includes several well-known tunes such as "Suddenly Seymour," "Somewhere That's Green" and the title song. The plot follows nerdy floral shop worker Seymour, who would do or give anything to gain the love of his co-worker Audrey. The depth of his desire is tested when a strange and menacing addition to his floral shop brings him sudden and unexpected popularity. Performances of Little Shop of Horrors are Tuesday, August 21 through Sunday, August 26 at the Wells Fargo Pavilion. (more...)
