Cortland Repertory Theatre has announced their 2022 5-show summer season to be held at the Little York Pavilion in Preble, NY, as a celebration of their 50th Anniversary. The season will run from June 8 – August 20 and will contain three musicals and two plays.

Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill is a play with music written by Lanie Robertson and this production is directed by Wren T. Brown. The musical premiered in 1986 in Atlanta, Georgia and its story recounts some events of Billie Holiday’s life leading up to this performance at Emerson’s four months shy of her death in 1959. Emerson’s is a small bar in South Philadelphia and the time is a midnight performance by Lady Day. Set to the backdrop of a piano center stage and a few cocktail tables around the space, we relive some events of Ms. Holiday’s life as told through stories found deep in her memory but living on the surface as if they just happened yesterday.

In just under a week, The Music Man officially opens at the Winter Garden Theatre. Michael John LaChiusa's See What I Wanna See, a musical based on three short stories by the Japanese writer Ryunosuke Akutagawa, originally premiered Off-Broadway in 2005. On February 2, members of the Boston Gay Men's Chorus will rehearse together in person for the first time in 700 days. When we cancelled our March 11, 2020 rehearsal in response to Gov. Baker's declaration of a state of emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we never imagined it would take this long to get back together again.

I fell in love with Jersey Boys when I discovered the cast recording back in 2006. That recording turned me into a fan of the group The Four Seasons which I honestly didn't know before this. Granted I knew some of the songs, but I found it fascinating that also 'my elders' didn't really know the group either. Later I learned that they never toured outside the United states. That could be a reason why the band went under the radar. I saw the musical twice in London and once in Las Vegas although my jetlag almost killed that experience. I had to drink four Red Bulls to stay awake. Luckily I did not need any Red Bull during the Norwegian premiere of this show. The show itself was energy booster enough for me.
