BWW Review: STAGES St. Louis's Hilarious Must-See 9 TO 5
by Chris Gibson - Jul 29, 2017

It's not surprising that the 1980 film 9 to 5 was turned into a musical, since it's revenge driven farcical plot is a natural fit, and it's a period piece, so it has that going for it as well. Plus, you have Dolly Parton, whose physical attributes sometimes make one forget how great a songwriter she is, providing material written for the show, and adding pieces plucked from her own recordings. It's a great show for a strong and varied female cast, and STAGES' current production doesn't disappoint, with the lead roles filled by outstanding performers. And, one thing is certain, it's a real crowd-pleaser, generating tons of laughs, and a number of memorable moments. (more...)

Theater Critic at Theater Camp: A Return Visit to French Woods
by BWW News Desk - Aug 15, 2017

How do you take hundreds of kids (ages 7 to 17) and put up over a dozen shows (mostly musicals, plus a few plays) in as little as three weeks, with rehearsals limited to maybe just 12 or 13 days, with all or most of the cast rehearsing just slightly more than two hours each day, and many campers working on multiple shows at once? And I'm talking about completely staged shows with full production values, including sets, lighting, sound, costumes and live orchestras. Not only that, imagine repeating this same frenzied process four times over the course of a single summer. (more...)

For the second year, the SUMMER ART MARKET, in coordination with THE PARLIAMENT ARTS ORGANIZATION located in Downtown York, Pennsylvania, has produced an opportunity for visual, fine and performing artists, to exhibit their talents for the area and surrounding communities. Kate Harmon, Director of Events and Marketing for The Parliament, states 'The Parliament Arts Organization is a nonprofit with a simple mission - Empowering artists. Transforming York. We do it several ways - through our art gallery with rotating shows, workshops to help creatives develop skills needed to make their business a success, and through hosting small and large events for the community. This year, the Summer Art Market was a way for us to really focus on giving local artists a platform to sell. By raising additional sponsorship dollars, we were able to waive the fee for local artists (and even rent them tents for free), so that nothing was in their way when it came to selling their wares.'
