The Capezio A.C.E. Awards crowned a 2020 winner at last night's ceremony that played to a packed house at the historic Montalbán Theatre in Hollywood as part of the MOVES at The Montalbán dance festival produced by Break the Floor Productions and presented by Capezio. The winner of the 2020 Capezio A.C.E. Award for outstanding choreography is choreographic team Grayson McGuire & Shiori Kamijo. Grayson and Shiori will receive a cash prize of $15,000 to be used towards the production of their own show at next year's MOVES at The Montalbán. The runner-up for this year's award, and the recipient of a $5,000 cash prize, is Noelle Marsh. There was a tie for second runner-up, each receiving $3,000, between Sarah Steben and Brandon Croisetiere. Hosted by hip-hop legend Kenny Wormald, the esteemed judging panel included such dance industry icons as Anita Mann, Marguerite Derricks, Ray Leeper, Vincent Paterson, Tony Selznick and Tessandra Chavez. Capezio and Break the Floor would like to thank all 26 choreographer finalists and their amazing dancers for competing in this year's awards.

On the evening of Wednesday, January 15, San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus (SFGMC) launched the public phase of its capital campaign to support the National LGBTQ Center for the Arts with a reception featuring remarks from Mayor London Breed, California State Senator Scott Wiener, Honorary Chair Sharon Stone, SFGMC Artistic Director Dr. Timothy Seelig, Campaign Chair Edward Sell, and SFGMC Executive Director Chris Verdugo. The evening also featured performances from members of SFGMC, San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Company, Opera Parallèle, San Francisco Philharmonic, and Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, docent-led tours of the building, and more.

Writers Theatre opens its 14th annual tour of The MLK Project: The Fight for Civil Rights, written by Yolanda Androzzo, directed by Sophiyaa Nayar and featuring Adhana Reid. A special Martin Luther King, Jr. Day public performance will take place at 10:30am on January 20, 2020 at the Chicago History Museum, 1601 N Clark Street in Chicago. The kickoff event also includes a post-show community discussion. The event is free and open to the public, and audience members will also receive free museum admission for the remainder of the day. The closing performance will also be free and open to the public, at 7pm on February 28, 2020 at DuSable Museum of African American History, 740 East 56th Place in Chicago. AMC Networks' Acorn TV has acquired exclusive North American rights to new four-part British drama Deadwater Fell from Endemol Shine International. Acorn TV General Manager Matthew Graham announced the news today at the winter Television Critics Association tour. Produced by Kudos and filmed in picturesque Scotland, the darkly gripping drama's stellar ensemble cast features David Tennant (Broadchurch, Doctor Who, Good Omens), Cush Jumbo (The Good Fight, The Good Wife, Vera), Matthew McNulty (Versailles, Cleaning Up, The Terror) and Anna Madeley (Patrick Melrose, The Crown, Utopia). The miniseries is created and written by Daisy Coulam (Grantchester, Humans) and directed by Lynsey Miller (The Boy with the Topknot, Eve). The Channel 4 series will make its US Premiere as an Acorn TV Original in April 2020.

Amazon Studios announced today that it has signed a new overall deal for television with the Academy and Emmy Award-winning team at Plan B Entertainment. Under the exclusive new agreement, its first ever devoted to television production, Plan B will develop and produce series to premiere on Amazon Prime Video in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide. Plan B is currently in production with Academy Award-winning director Barry Jenkins on the upcoming Amazon Original series The Underground Railroad, and will also produce the new Amazon Original series Outer Range, created by Brian Watkins. Plan B is also working with Amazon Studios, along with Legendary Television, to develop Paper Girls, a dramatic series based on Brian K. Vaughan's best-selling graphic novel.

On Sunday afternoon, Long Beach Opera (LBO) presented the world premiere of its adaptation of Henry Purcell's semi-opera King Arthur at the Beverly O'Neill Theater. A semi-opera refers to a Restoration entertainment that combines a spoken play with musical episodes that involvolomot, Darryl Taylor, e singing and dancing. Purcell's best known semi-operas are King Arthur and The Fairy-Queen. LBO presented its version of the latter in 2017.
