California Shakespeare Theater opens its 2018 Season with the World Premiere of Quixote Nuevo, a music-filled, contemporary retelling of Miguel de Cervantes' classic Spanish novel Don Quixote. Celebrated Latino playwright Octavio Solis takes us on a journey to the fictional modern-day border town of La Mancha, Texas, where an aging Don Quixote loses himself in stories of chivalrous escapades and embarks on a quest of imagination, adventure, and Tejano music. Quixote Nuevo, directed by acclaimed documentary playmaker KJ Sanchez making her Cal Shakes debut, will feature Emilio Delgado, best known for his long-running role as Luis on Sesame Street, in the title role, and a cast of Latinx actors from the Bay Area and beyond. NBCSN will televise its first-ever FIFA World Cup match in Spanish this Sunday, June 17, live at 1:30 p.m. ET when Brazil face Switzerland at Rostov Arena in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, in the group stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia. Montalvo Arts Center kicks off its annual Art on the Grounds exhibition program this summer with We the People, an evening of poetry, performance, and sound and installation art. For National Mental Health Month, four post-play panel discussions have been set for 'A Punk or a Gentleman' by Andrea J. Fulton, which will be presented for its world premiere by Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue, NYC from May 3 to 20. The play explores the complex psyche of a Black, middle-aged Don Juan who loves to captivate women but falls victim to physical abuse by the women he loves. The ten-character drama will be directed by Kymbali Craig for its world premiere. Ms. Fulton was awarded the 2017 Thomas Barbour Award by the Episcopal Actors' Guild for this play.

Seldom is there a musical where the question asked is not have whether you seen it, but rather how many times have you seen it. Andrew Lloyd Webber's 1988 blockbuster THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is such a musical. Repeated viewings are commonplace in Western New York, with many having seen the original Toronto or New York production in addition to many of it's national tours.
