Producer Madeleine Foster Bersin is proud to announce initial casting for 1969: The Second Man, created by Jacob Brandt (The Great Glaciation), featuring music & lyrics by Brandt, a book by Dan Giles (Breeders), and directed by Jaki Bradley (Good Men Wanted), as part of Next Door at NYTW. Previews begin at the Fourth Street Theatre (83 E 4th St) on Friday, August 24, 2018, with opening night set for Monday August 27 for a limited run through Saturday September 8, 2018. Tickets are on sale now at nytw.org.

After he became the second man to walk on the moon, reporters asked Buzz Aldrin if he wished he had been the first. "I really didn't want that," Buzz claimed, "because of the added heartache." Why is it so hard to believe him? A folk-rock fable for the runner-up in all of us, 1969: The Second Man explores competition and collective achievement through the story of one small man who became one giant myth, but then had to find his way back to earth. Jacob Brandt's rueful, raucous song cycle comes to theatrical life with playwright Dan Giles, director Jaki Bradley, and a six-piece band.

The cast of 1969: The Second Man will include Jacob Brandt, Paris Ellsworth (Go! Go! Gilgamesh), Lizzie Hagstedt (Sweeney Todd National Tour), Angel Lin (Interstate), Maya Sharpe (Hair), and Tony Aidan Vo (The GreatLeap).

1969: The Second Man features Scenic & Lighting Design by Oona Curley (Underground Railroad Game, The Homecoming Queen). Stacey Derosier (Don Juan Comes Back From War) is Co-Lighting Designer, and Daniel Prosky (Ragtime on Ellis Island) is Co-Scenic Designer. Costume Design is by Ntokozo Fuzunina Kunene (The Homecoming Queen).

General admission tickets for 1969: The Second Man are $25. The performance schedule for 1969: The Second Man is as follows: Friday, August 24 at 7:00pm; Saturday, August 25 at 7:00pm; Sunday, August 26 at 8:00pm; Monday, August 27 at 8:00pm; Wednesday, August 29 at 8:00pm; Thursday, August 30 at 8:00pm; Friday, August 31 at 8:00pm; Saturday, September 1 at 2:00pm and 8:00pm; Sunday, September 2 at 8:00pm; Tuesday, September 4 at 8:00pm; Wednesday, September 5 at 8:00pm; Thursday, September 6 at 8:00pm; Friday, September 7 at 8:00pm; Saturday, September 8 at 2:00pm and 8:00pm.
