Hero Theatre will spotlight the stories of Black women with two new commissions. Phanésia Pharel joins Hero as the newest commission for Nuestro Planeta. Playwright Amina Henry, whose play Troy was commissioned and presented by Hero in 2019, returns to riff on Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing in a follow-up commission.

The Green Room 42 presents Ruth Sent Us: A Benefit For Reproductive Justice on October 11th at 7:00 PM. Ilana Levine, known for her acclaimed podcast Little Known Facts, will host. Levine joins the previously announced Emmy winner Mauricio Martinez, Grammy nominees Austin Ku and Kendyl Ito, Jeff Award winner Andrea Prestinario, Emmy nominee David Dabbon, and Marina Pires and Luke Wygodny of The Heartstrings Project (Grammy consideration).

The Green Room 42 will present Ruth Sent Us: A Benefit For Reproductive Justice on October 11th at 7:00 PM. Dedicated to the late great Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, this one-night-only concert will celebrate RBG's legacy through songs and discussion from the Broadway community. Heather Booth, civil rights activist and founder of JANE consults. Directed and Produced by Mara Jill Herman with Music Direction by Andrea Grody, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Jewish Fund For Abortion Access.

This world premiere, created, produced and directed by Karla, will feature a panel and show that includes: Shelly Berger, Janie Bradford, Duke Fakir, William Goldstein, Iris Gordy, Brian Holland, Brenda Holloway, Thelma Houston, Miller London, Scherrie, Lynda & Susaye (Former Ladies of The Supremes), Martha Reeves, Paul Riser, Claudette Robinson, Smokey Robinson and Otis Williams. Pat Harvey acts as master of ceremonies, with Shadoe Stevens announcing and Patrice Rushen as panel moderator. Karla managed to carve out some time to answer a few of my queries.

The Santa Fe Opera will present the world premiere of This Little Light of Mine, a new opera about the life of voting rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer. The one-act opera is composed by Chandler Carter with libretto by Diana Solomon-Glover. Under development since 2017, the piece is commissioned by the Santa Fe Opera and its Opera for All Voices (OFAV) consortium partners.
