The York Theatre Company, as part of its acclaimed NEO Reading Series, will present a staged reading of the new musical Borders, with book, music, and lyrics by 2019 NEO writers Janine McGuire and Arri Lawton Simon, based on the film The Bubble by Eytan Fox and Gal Uchovsky, for ONE PERFORMANCE ONLY on Monday, February 24, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. at the York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (619 Lexington Avenue, entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue). 'The world of aroma has traditionally borrowed its language from the other senses. We often refer to aroma in every other way - music, tactility, taste...Anything but actual aroma,' says Lana Sutherland Co-Founder and CEO of TEALEAVES. "When we craft custom blends for our clients, just like the world of wine, we describe the aromatic experience in metaphors, which are inaccessible and unique to us." The annual Gala Benefit Evening hosted by Ravinia's Women's Board to support the festival and its Reach Teach Play education programs grossed more than $1.1 million, making it one of the most successful in the 53-year history of the event. Chicago's own Oscar- and Grammy- winning Jennifer Hudson made her Chicago Symphony Orchestra debut, headlining the only concert fundraiser Ravinia puts on for itself. Save the Children, the international humanitarian organization, today announced that Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Camila Cabello will be honored at “The Centennial Gala: Changing The World for Children” in New York City, while Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company's Robert A. Iger will be honored at the “Centennial Celebration: Once in a Lifetime” in Los Angeles. Both events are a culmination of the organization's 100th year anniversary and will celebrate Save the Children's mission to do whatever it takes for the most vulnerable children in the United States and around the world.

Des Moines Metro Opera (DMMO) is pleased to announce completion of The Lauridsen Opera Center, a $3.5 million dollar renovation, restoration and expansion of Indianola's historic 1904 Carnegie Library building, located at 106 West Boston Avenue. DMMO purchased the building in 1985 from the City of Indianola through a generous gift from Mary Belle Windsor. Since then, it has served as the year-round community engagement and administrative home of the organization. Substantial construction work began on May 1, 2018. The new opera center is named for Des Moines-based philanthropists Nixon and Virginia Lauridsen who provided a $1 million leadership gift in support of the project. The Grand Opening will occur on June 29, 2019 and other opportunities exist (see below) for the public to tour the building.
