Word for Word’s 30th Season opens with HOME by George Saunders, April 8 - 29 at Z Below. Word for Word has a long history of adapting stories by George Saunders. HOME is about a war veteran returning to a home that is increasingly cruel and absurd, and his quest for understanding and compassion.

Boston Baroque concludes its 50th season with two programs in March and April. First, Boston Baroque presents two works by Mozart—his “Jupiter” Symphony No. 41 and the Sinfonia concertante featuring soloists Christina Day Martinson, violin, and Jason Fisher, viola. Ten of the world's finest quartets will compete for the most coveted prize in chamber music at the 13th Banff International String Quartet Competition (BISQC) in Banff, Alberta, Canada. Chosen by a preliminary jury of internationally celebrated musicians, these 10 quartets were selected from a competitive pool of applicants representing 5 of the world's 7 continents. They will showcase their exceptional skill during five rounds of intense competition from August 26 September 1, 2019. The quartets will be competing for over $300,000 in cash and prizes, one of the most generous awards in chamber music internatonally.

'Bring it On' meets 'Dreamgirls' in the girl-group musical, 'Betty and the Belrays' by William Electric Black aka Ian Ellis James, which will be presented by Theater for the New City January 31 to February 17. The piece tells the story of three white female singers from Detroit who struggle to change a racially divided society by singing for a black record label. Book and lyrics are by William Electric Black. Music is by Black, Valerie Ghent (arranger/keyboards for Ashford & Simpson) and Gary Schreiner. Choreography is by Jeremy Lardieri. Director is Mr. Black.
