Birdland Jazz Club and Birdland Theater are open this April with a full slate of nightly performances! 

Music veteran, John Vento and his longtime blue-collar rock co-horts in Nied's Hotel Band have been releasing their impressive catalog of music since 2004, when Vento and Buddy Hall released 'Nied's Hotel Archives' and 2007's 'Nied's Hotel.'

Mr. Saturday Night, co-written by and starring Tony and Emmy Award winner Billy Crystal, officially begins previews tonight, March 29, 2022. The show will officially open on April 27, 2022 at the Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41st Street). Meet the cast bringing the show to Broadway here!

Roundabout Theatre Company has announced the tenth annual Roundabout Underground Reading Series, a four-night event that includes nightly readings of new works written by emerging artists. The Reading Series will feature new works by Liz Appel, Noah Diaz, Daria Miyeko Marinelli and York Walker. The Roundabout Underground Reading Series is January 18 - 21, 2022 at 5:00PM at the Five Angels Theater (789 Tenth Avenue).

A new musical comedy, Mr. Saturday Night is about one man's meteoric rise to the middle. The musical is a work in development and will be presented with minimal set and costume pieces.

The Museum of Pop Culture today announced its annual Founders Award — the nonprofit organization’s signature benefit gala — this year will honor Quincy Jones, an impresario in the broadest and most creative sense of the word.

Actor-writer-lawyer Mark McGoldrick is someone with an unusually compelling life story. A self-described former “f**kup” whose youth was largely spent in a haze of drug use and delinquency, McGoldrick was involved in a horrifying accident that could have cost him his life and did leave him paralyzed. Instead of wallowing in self-pity, McGoldrick used this tragedy as an opportunity to reset his life. He went to Harvard Law School and became a public defender for Alameda County, representing people, mostly of color, charged with the same offenses of his earlier days. A number of years ago, he felt the compulsion to start putting his riveting stories onstage by writing and performing solo shows. McGoldrick is now chronicling his story over four monthly episodes in Countercoup, The Marsh’s first broadcast series. Countercoup will be presented the first weekend of each month, May 1 – August 8, 2021 with a new installment performed each weekend at 7:30pm (PDT), Saturdays and 5:00pm (PDT), Sundays. BroadwayWorld recently spoke with McGoldrick while he was on a break from his day job as a public defender in downtown Oakland. We discussed how he was able to recover from personal tragedy and to harness his innate mouthiness to use it for the greater good, how his stage work can affect his loved ones, ongoing issues with our justice system, and some unanticipated benefits from the Covid pandemic for folks with disabilities. As expected, he was fascinating to talk to – keenly intelligent and brutally honest with a sly sense of humor, but also deeply thoughtful, considerate and ultimately quite hopeful. He has a propensity to speak in long, complex sentences that manifest his experience as a public defender.

“I wish that every artist was afforded the luxury that I have at this time in my career. To be partnered with Time Life on some of my most successful albums that have never been available for streaming is incredibly exciting,' he said.

The rise from turbulent teen years of drug use and delinquency, through a life-changing accident that left him paralyzed, to his current role as a veteran Public Defender helping others, are chronicled over multiple episodes in Mark McGoldrick's Countercoup, presented as The Marsh's first broadcast series.

Set and production designer Adam Koch has designed sets for over 50 productions worldwide. Recently, Koch designed the set for the Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma's immersive, site-specific, outdoor production of A Christmas Carol in November, where people walked from scene to scene across 10-acres of land at the historic Harn Homestead.
