Houston Symphony Announces October Lineup

The Houston Symphony is observing Halloween this year with a weekend of performances of Hector Berlioz’s masterpiece of the macabre, Symphonie fantastique. This month’s classical subscription concerts feature the famed Berlioz symphonic wild ride, as well as Dame Jane Glover’s and Italian conductor Jader Bignamini’s return to the Jones Hall podium, and Symphony Principal Flute Aralee Dorough and Principal Bassoon Rian Craypo stepping forward to perform soloist roles.

The Hunter College Theatre Department and South Street Seaport Museum present Long Voyage Home: Eugene O'Neill's Plays of the Sea, an experiential evening of three one acts performed on the newly-restored Wavertree ship on Pier 16 at New York City's South Street Seaport.Barbara Bosch directs a cast of 16, including Azime Aydogmu, Jhoel Centeno, William English. Andrew Fitzsimons*, Idriz Gjokaj, Erin Jeffries, Dennis Lee, Adin Lenahan, Joyce Lim, Kevin Maloof, Victor La Mantia*, Alexander Nero, Pamela Savino, George Sheffey*, Guy Ventoliere*, and Jacqueline Wade*. Eight performances will be staged at Hunter College 695 Park Avenue (at 68th Street) and aboard the Wavertree ship, Pier 16, South Street Seaport from August 28-September 9, 2018.

The New York Philharmonic has named Barbara Haws Archivist and Historian Emeritus for her leadership role in the creation, curation, and expansion of the Philharmonic's extensive Archives for almost 34 years. She will retire from the Philharmonic in August 2018 and pursue a doctorate in musicology when she matriculates at New College, University of Oxford, in October.
