The whole world is getting hip to Bobby Rush.  After decades of tearing up the chitlin' circuit on a nightly basis with his sweaty, no-holds-barred funkfests, Bobby has thoroughly broken through to the mainstream. He won a long-overdue 2017 Grammy Award for his spectacular album Porcupine Meat and consistently tours the globe as a headliner. What's more, Bobby's brand-new album Sitting on Top of the Blues on his own Deep Rush imprint (distributed by Thirty Tigers), due out August 16, 2019, promises to further spread the news that this revered legend, well past 80 years of age even if his stratospheric energy level belies the calendar, is bigger and badder and bolder than ever.

From 2016, Almeida Young Company have been steadily producing plays working with two groups of young actors. They're This summer their participants aged 14-18 are presenting Molly Taylor's The Wave and the older group (18-25) are staging Nina Segal's (This Isn't) A True Story.

The Orange County Playwrights Alliance travels to Newport Theatre Arts Center - Newport Beach's beautiful 'theatre on the cliff' - for its July new play event, presenting staged readings of three new one-act plays that all concern the possibility of a 'second chance.'

Alok has collaborated with American artist Sevenn on new single 'The Wall', the first release on the Brazilian bass innovator's new CONTROVERSIA label, out on Friday 28th June.

The Specials were joined in Brooklyn on Friday night by some very special guests. Some teachers and parents from  Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Artist and activist Manuel Oliver, whose 17 year old son Joaquin was one of the 17 students murdered in the mass shooting last year, gave an impassioned speech to the crowd at Brooklyn Steel.  The band incorporated the Instrument of Hope, a trumpet crafted of bullet casings by survivors of the school shooting, into their sold out performance. The band flew Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students Sawyer Garrity and Andrea Pena, the writers of Shine, and their parents to Brooklyn to attend the concert and meet with the band prior to the show.

The Women's Forum of New York will present the 9th Annual Elly Awards Luncheon benefiting The Education Fund of the Women's Forum on Monday, June 17th, at The Plaza Hotel in New York City. The awards, named for the Women's Forum founder Elinor Guggenheimer, will honor outstanding women leaders. This year marks the 32nd anniversary of the Education Fund of the Women's Forum, which has helped over 260 women, age 35 and over, whose lives have been disrupted by extreme adversity, complete their college degrees.

City Lit's 40th Season to explore key moments in American history through fact, fiction and fantasy. Kennedy's THIRTEEN DAYS and Owen Lister's THE VIRGINIAN

Four Chords and a Gun is an intense black comedy about the infamous punk band the Ramones written by John Ross Bowie (“The Big Bang Theory”, “Speechless”). The play reveals the drama-filled 1979 recording session that led to The Ramones album, End of the Century, produced by the eccentric gun wielding Phil Spector. The Canadian premier of this sometimes funny, sometimes wrenching, always gritty, story of how the world's greatest Punk album came to be is directed by long-time Toronto Star theatre critic and Stratford Festival director Richard Ouzounian. Hey Ho Let's Go! to a play about the Ramones followed by a concert. Not a f***ing musical.

Skylight Theatre Company's first world premiere musical, BRONCO BILLY - THE MUSICAL, will be helmed by director Hunter Bird. Based on the 1980 Warner Bros. film Bronco Billy starring Clint Eastwood, this rousing MUSICAL centering on a travelling Wild West show, circa 1979, has already begun previews. Hunter managed to rest his cowboy booted feet up for a few to answer my inquiring questions.

Technically any venue with 500 seats or more, located along Broadway in New York City's Theatre District is a Broadway theatre, and the art that is produced in these special places is widely considered the highest form of theatrical entertainment in the world. Today, forty-one theatres are technically Broadway houses, each with their own rich history. Below, we're giving you the scoop on the life of every one of them!

Bay Street Theater is pleased to announce Music Mondays, the summer concert series for July and August, with all shows at 8 pm.

Joseph Merrick, known for the extreme deformity of his body and face, lived in the Victorian era and would not be known except his story is dramatized as The Elephant Man. A Public Fit Theatre Company is presenting the Tony-award winning production by Bernard Pomerance starring Kurt Hellerigh as Merrick at The Usual Place May 3-26.

Grammy Nominated and Academy of Country Music award winner Lacy J. Dalton shows no sign of slowing down as she hits the road this summer, taking her music across the country. “What started off as a couple of shows, has turned into eighteen cities in seven states,” says Lacy J. “I am so excited to bring my music to my fans. I love to meet new people, and with my new project, Scarecrow, there is a lot of excitement happening right now for me.”

The West End and Broadway musical Song & Dance has taken up a lot of space in my CD collection. In addition to the Original London Cast Recording starring Marti Webb (recorded live at the Palace Theatre in 1982), the 1984 British television broadcast from the stage of recently closed production at the Palace starring Sarah Brightman and the Original Broadway Cast Recording (of just the songs half, no dance music...) starring Bernadette Peters, I'm also including the original 1979 'Tell Me on a Sunday' album starring Marti Webb in her first stab at the material, from which the sung portion of Song & Dance was derived, as well as its 2003 London production starring Denise Van Outen.
