New York's leading LGBTQ film festival, NewFest, has announced the full lineup of their 31st annual celebration of the year's best LGBTQ films from around the world. As announced earlier this week, the festival will kick off the festival's 31st edition with the New York premiere of Mike Doyle's Manhattan-set ensemble rom-com SELL BY, featuring an eclectic cast including Scott Evans (Netflix's “Grace and Frankie”), Kate Walsh (ABC's “Grey's Anatomy”), Academy Award-nominee and Emmy Award-winner Patricia Clarkson, Michelle Buteau (Netflix's “Tales of the City”) and Augustus Prew (HIGH-RISE), and will close the festival with the New York premiere of Rodrigo Bellott's award-winning film TU ME MANQUES, which was recently announced as Bolivia's submission for Best International Feature Film selection for the 2019 Academy Awards. 

Faith, Hope and Charity is a 21st century Boys from the Blackstuff, a searing indictment of austerity as seen through the eyes of decent people who want to be kind and need to be loved.

Irish Repertory Theatre presents the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize winning-play Pumpgirl, by Abbie Spallen (Strandline), directed by Nicola Murphy (Stop/Over). Pumpgirl begins performances in the W. Scott McLucas Studio Theatre (132 W 22ndStreet, New York, NY 10011) on November 7, 2019, with opening night set for November 14, for a limited run through December 29, 2019.

Kansas City Repertory Theatre opens its 2019-2020 season with an ambitious production of a difficult, intense, family drama by Tennessee Williams, one of the twentieth century's most renowned talents. a?oeCata?? won a Pulitzer Prize for drama in 1955 and is said to have been Williams' favorite.

2019 TCG Peter Zeisler Memorial Award Recipient Bishop Arts Theatre Center presents The Wild Party, a steamy prohibition tale, by Andrew Lippa. Directed by Adam Adolfo at the Bishop Arts Theatre Center, The Wild Party runs October 10 through October 27. Press Night/Opening Night will be Saturday, October 12 at 8:00 p.m.

Endless Second explores how two people deal with a trauma that fundamentally alters the nature of their relationship.

Yet the truth is much more than a tale of two warring families. It is the story of a region and its people forced into sudden change by Eastern capitalists, who transformed Appalachia from an agrarian mountain community into a coal and timber producing workplace owned and run primarily by outside interests. Written, directed and produced by Randall MacLowry and executive produced by Mark Samels, The Feud premieres Tuesday, September 10, 2019, 9:00-10:00 p.m. ET on PBS, PBS.org and the PBS App.

It's that time of year again. One of my favorite times of year. That time when I get to spend the weekend at Village Theatre checking out the shows brought together by the folks at Village, spotlighting new works around the country. Some amazing, some needing work, but all showing promise. Now, of course, I can't review any of these. They're all still works in progress and not fully staged. But I can share what went on over the weekend as a potential coming attraction of musicals to come to a theater near you.
