Andrew Scott, Sharon D. Clarke, Juliet Stevenson, Sam Tutty and Hammed Animashaun have won top acting honours at the 2019 Critics Circle Theatre Awards, held today (11 February 2020) at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London's West End, hosted by Critics' Circle Drama Section Chairman Henry Hitchings.

Boston Ballet Artistic Director Mikko Nissinen announces programming for the 2020a?"2021 season. The season opens with a world premiere as part of a three-ballet program of William Forsythe's works. Nissinen's The Nutcracker returns to capture the imagination of audiences of all ages. The spring season includes a second world premiere by William Forsythe, Alexei Ratmansky's Symphony No. 9, and George Balanchine's Ballo della Regina, plus the Company premiere of Christopher Wheeldon's A Midsummer Night's Dream and the return of Marius Petipa's The Sleeping Beauty. The season concludes with a female-led program, part of Boston Ballet's ChoreograpHER Initiative. The Company's 57th season runs November 5, 2020 through May 30, 2021 at the Citizens Bank Opera House.

William Shakespeare's 1595 comedy A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM is one of his most often performed light plays. Stripped down, it is a screwball romantic comedy of misdirection written across five acts in verse.

Houston Grand Opera (HGO) announced today the winners of the 32nd annual Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers Concert of Arias, which took place in the Cullen Theater of the Wortham Theater Center. This is the fourth year the Concert of Arias was streamed live on Facebook, and the third for livestreaming on YouTube. The livestream was hosted by HGO Studio alumna Jamie Barton. She is currently performing the title role in La favorite and placed third in the 2007 Concert of Arias. The winners were announced during the second portion of the program. 

The comedy 2 Pianos 4 Hands has been added to the current Olney Theatre Center schedule as a special event for a limited run on the Historic Stage, May 8 - 24, 2020. Written and originally performed by Ted Dykstra and Richard Greenblatt; Jefferson McDonald and Matt McGloin take the stage for this production to portray Ted and Richard from their very first piano lessons as they strive to become professional concert pianists. Directed by Tom Frey, each actor plays a piano in this comic look at what happens when we chase our dreams and come up short. Writer and director Anna Brenner, along with her company Other Shore, are set to premiere The Karamazovs, a freewheeling distillation of Fyodor Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov, at the New Ohio Theatre (154 Christopher Street, Manhattan).

The Lewis and Shirley White Theatre of The Jewish Community Center (The J) continues to expand its artistic horizons with its first William Shakespeare production as part of its 15th season. Shakespeare's magical masterpiece,

Samantha Womack and Cameron Blakely will revive their roles as Morticia and Gomez Addams in the new UK & Ireland Tour of THE ADDAMS FAMILY, a musical comedy, with book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, the creators of multi award-winning Jersey Boys, and music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, based on the characters created by Charles Addams. This follows a highly successful premiere tour in 2017. The 2020 Tour will open at the Newcastle Theatre Royal on 30 July 2020 and will once again be directed by Matthew White. Further casting is to be announced.

Dramatic Repertory Company (Keith Powell Beyland, Artistic Director) presents the World Premiere THE MOTHER by Lynne Conner, directed by Lisa Muller-Jones playing March 6 - 15, 2020. This premiere production will be presented at the Studio Theater at Portland Stage, 25A Forest Ave, Portland, Maine.

Shakespeare's Globe has announced the full cast for the 2020 Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank production of Macbeth, directed by Cressida Brown. This full-scale, fast-paced production is created especially for young people, and will open on Wednesday 26 February until Wednesday 25 March. This year, the demand was so high that over 18,000 free tickets were allocated to state secondary schools in London and Birmingham in just one day, with thousands more students expected to watch the production during its run.

On Thursday, February 13th, PICT Classic Theatre will present the second production of its 2019-2020 Season: A Midsummer Night's Dream, at WQED's Fred Rogers Studio in Oakland.

The Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry at the University of Connecticut will present the grand opening of its new exhibitions Paul Vincent Davis and the Art of Puppet Theater and Shakespeare and Puppetry on Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020, with refreshments at noon followed by a free tour of the new exhibitions at 12:30 p.m. All events will take place at the Ballard Institute, located at 1 Royce Circle in Downtown Storrs. The exhibition will be on display through Sunday, June 7, 2020.  

The Stratford Festival's Laboratory is a hive of activity at the moment, with a number of Canadian theatre artists coming to Stratford to develop their work. They responded to a call for submissions made this past summer and are bringing their in-development work to the Festival as part of a new R&D residency program in the Lab.

Once Upon a Mattress opens Upstairs at the Gatehouse in March 2020. Returning to the Gatehouse with another classic musical rarely seen in London, Mark Giesser steps back into the director's chair for his new production of Once Upon A Mattress, the first musical by Mary Rodgers, daughter of legendary musical composer Richard Rodgers.

La Jolla Playhouse is pleased to launch its 2020 Performance Outreach Program (POP) Tour production: Emily Driver's Great Race through Time and Space, by A.A. Brenner and Gregg Mozgala, directed by National Disability Theatre (NDT) Co-Executive Directors and Playhouse Artists-in-Residence Talleri A. McRae and Mickey Rowe. Shakespeare's Globe has announced the full cast for Globe on Tour, directed by Brendan O'Hea. The company of eight actors will once again offer audiences around the world a trio of plays, which this year explore the relationship between humankind and Mother Nature. Audiences will cast their votes for either A Midsummer Night's Dream, As You Like It or The Tempest, each of which explores the natural world and its great potential for abundance and transformation.

Skylight Music Theatre announced two free screenings of Midsummer in Newtown, an award-winning documentary about the power of the performing arts to heal the children and community of Newtown, CT following the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy. The screenings are free and open to the general public. Those who work in education and the arts community are especially encouraged to attend.

The producers of the highly acclaimed UK tour of Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em are delighted to announce the casting of Moray Treadwell as Mr Luscombe/Mr Worthington, David Shaw-Parker as Father O'Hara and Ben Watson as Desmond/Constable. They join the previously announced Joe Pasquale as the loveable but accident-prone Frank Spencer, Sarah Earnshaw as his long-suffering wife Betty and Susie Blake as his disapproving mother-in-law, Mrs Fisher. Also in the cast are Peter F Gardiner and Jayne Ashley.

Florida Studio Theatre (FST) presents the Regional Premiere of Kunstler by Jeffrey Sweet, a revealing drama inspired by the real life and career of self-described a?oeradical lawyera?? and Civil Rights activist William Kunstler, who often took unorthodox approaches in the pursuit of justice. Called a?oeEye-openinga?? by The New York Times, this engaging play highlights Kunstler's most famous and controversial cases. Kunstler starts playing in FST's Bowne's Lab Theatre February 19.
