Reviews: MACBETH Glows Bright at Pioneer Farms in Austin, TX
by Amy Tarver - Sep 23, 2022

Navigating the lantern lit path to a small traditional log cabin in Northeast Austin, the house was packed to see Archive Theater’s reimagined rendition of MACBETH. The cracked wooden windows to beat the heat, and the creative thrust staging ignited a sense of comradery for the drama needed for Shakespeare's famous Scottish play. Many are familiar with the story of MACBETH - three witches tell the Scottish general Macbeth that he will be King, resulting in murder and mayhem encouraged Lady Macbeth, the chaos quickly spirals out of control - but Archive sets the cunning mutiny during America’s civil war era. Altering places listed in the play to reference opposing sides during our nation's torrid history, mirrors the chaos and eventual bloodshed that occurs during Macbeth’s plight. The original “game of thrones” between the Macbeths and all who stand in their way is a shocking reminder of how greed and power can be a fatal elixir for the ambitious.

BWW Review: TWILIGHT: LOS ANGELES 1992 At Straz Center
by Drew Eberhard - Nov 18, 2020

27 Characters, 1 performer, allow me to say it again…27 DIFFERENT CHARACTERS, 1 PERFORMER. Over the course of a 2 Hour span, 1 Performer has the daunting task of honing in on 27 different perspectives, different accounts of a real event. A real event that happened in 1992 but hits just as hard at the core today as it did a mere 28 years ago. Think about that for a minute; an event that happened 28 years ago is just as real, just as haunting today as it was back then. In a world surrounded by testimony on all sides of the spectrum, in a world surrounded by opinions where does the grey area fall? Why are events so controversial then be just as relevant in the world we know today? This brings back to memory the prologue from Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, “Two households, both alike in dignity, In fair Verona, where we lay our scene, From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean…” Now 28 years later this has very much become, “…the two-hour traffic of our stage.”

OPENING NIGHT MUTINY By Two Local Playwrights Starts Next Week At Players' Ring
by BWW News Desk - Jan 25, 2019

It's hard to believe a director would fire a leading actor a day before a show is set to open, or that actors would change the lines of the script the first night of the show. But such debacles are not merely the stuff of farcical fiction, but also the real live events that have been captured in "Opening Night Mutiny," a show written by two York natives that will run Jan 25 to Feb 10 at the Players' Ring in Portsmouth.
