The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Evans Haile, Executive Director), dedicated to the development of new musicals and rediscovery of musical gems from the past, as part of its 50th Anniversary season celebration, will present two added special events during the month of March: York Chat: Musicals in Mufti: 118 and Counting, the second in a series of panel discussions, _An Evening with Sheldon Harnick and Friends_ a special concert featuring Sheldon Harnick, Liz Callaway, and Karen Ziemba. Both special events will take place at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue).

There are times when being a theater reviewer is a fabulous gig. Last night at the Providence Performing Arts Center was one of those times. FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, running through Sunday at PPAC is not to be missed. It is warm, funny, sad, uplifting, and helps us see the world from the vantage point of the oppressed-it is gorgeous. First, let's give credit to FIDDLER'S creators: Jerry Bock wrote the music, Sheldon Harnick the lyrics, and Joseph Stein the book. Bock and Harnick had previously collaborated on the Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner Fiorello; Stein had been part of the writing team along with Woody Allen, Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner and Neil Simon on television's Your Show on Shows-these were some talented guys. The original Broadway production of the show, which opened in 1964, had the first musical theatre run in history to surpass 3,000 performances. It held the record for the longest running Broadway musical for almost ten years. The production was extraordinarily profitable and highly acclaimed. It won nine Tony awards, including best musical, score, book, direction and choreography. It spawned five Broadway revivals and a highly successful film adaptation and has enjoyed enduring international popularity.

Showtunes Theatre Company produced its first musical in concert on January 22, 2000 at Town Hall in Seattle. That first show was Anyone Can Whistle, a Stephen Sondheim/Arthur Laurents cult favorite that showcased 30+ local performers and musicians and enjoyed a sold-out-one-night-only performance. Now, 20 years and one month to the day, Showtunes has produced 40 musicals in concert, multiple cabarets and special events produced in and around Seattle since January of 2000 on the very stage it all began - Town Hall Seattle.

Based in Chicago, Illinois and helmed by Co-Founders Jessica Needham (Executive Director) and David Fiorello (Artistic Director), The Beautiful City Project will produce monthly cabarets and musicals in concert to raise money every month for a different, local Chicago charitable organization.

Downstairs at Bond 45, the popular Times Square eatery was hopping with the debut of “Shelly & Friends” Revue hosted by legendary Broadway publicist Irene Gandy and Emmy Winning Anchor and Host from Spectrum TV's 'On Stage' Frank Di Lella. The cabaret evening, produced by Katherine Moon, was a tribute to the iconic restauranteur Shelly Fireman of the Fireman Group which owns and runs New York's popular Trattoria dell' Arte, Café Fiorello, Brooklyn Diner, Redeye Grill and Bond 45.

Iconic landmark restaurant, Tavern on the Green is excited to bring the holiday spirit to Central Park with their 4th annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on 'Giving Tuesday,' Tuesday, December 3rd.

The heyday of Vaudeville may have come to an abrupt end in the 1930s, but it is alive and well in Gypsy, Bay Area Musical's fifth season opening act. And what a doozy of a show. Based on the 1957 memoirs of famed striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee, the musical came to Broadway in 1959 and was promptly hailed as a runaway hit. With a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim it garnered 8 Tony nominations, though strangely enough, it didn't win any, losing Best Musical to a tie between Fiorello! and The Sound of Music. Ouch!

LA TI DO Productions has announced the multicultural cast for the world premiere of Hazing U: A Modern Greek Tragedy, a new play penned by Zachary Harris Martin - also playing the role of Ezra. The cast features Alexander Rios (Off-Broadway's Pip's Island) as Chase, Benjamin Ubiñas as Scott, Matt Caccamo (Off-Broadway's Fiorello!) as Adam, Reginald Keith Jackson (Off-Boradway's Puffs) as Parker, and Samson Dubé as Axel.

Helen Hayes Award Winner BRIAN CHILDERS has spent the last twenty years receiving raves for his one man show 'An Evening with Danny Kaye' and starred off-Broadway as Danny Kaye in 'Danny and Sylvia: A Musical Love Story'. Porchlight Music Theatre's 25th anniversary season began with the 14th Annual Chicago Sings concert: Chicago Sings 25 Years of Porchlight, Monday, Aug. 5 at 7 p.m., at The Museum of Contemporary Art, 220 E. As Porchlight Music Theatre is set to launch its 25th Anniversary Season as Chicago's center for music theatre, it celebrated 24 years and announced its 25th Anniversary co-chairs at the 2019 ICONS Gala Sunday, March 31 at the Ritz-Carlton Chicago, 160 E. Pearson. The 2019 ICONS GALA set a new attendance record with 300 guests in attendance and raised more funds that directly benefit Porchlight's artistic and educational programs than previous events. The elegant Gala Brunch, chaired by Tamara Sims, included performances from Chicago's leading talents celebrating the legendary career of Jerome Robbins, the presentation of The Luminary Award to Jean Klingenstein, introduced the 25th Anniversary chairs: RIck and Deann Bayless and Bill Kurtis and Donna La Pietra and silent and live auctions.

Broadway and TV star Brandon J. Dirden (All the Way, Jitney, The Americans) hosted the 11th annual New York City August Wilson Monologue Competition, sponsored by LEAP (Learning through an Expanded Arts Program, Inc.). A total of 15 LEAP students from nine New York high schools in four boroughs brought the audience to their feet as they embodied Wilson's characters and provided their own interpretations-immersing them in Wilson's world of 10 plays, referred to as The Century Cycle.

San Francisco's 42nd Street Moon (Daren A.C. Carollo and Daniel Thomas, Co-Executive Directors) has announced the full cast and creative team for Moon's first 2019 production, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical FIORELLO!

The 96th season of the New York Philharmonic Young People's Concerts (YPCs) will continue on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. with "Animals into Song - The Cunning Little Vixen," the second program in this season's series of YPCs, Music Across Borders. Conducted by Jakub Hr?ša, the program will explore how music can depict animals and settings, exemplified by Jana?ek's The Cunning Little Vixen Suite, featuring puppets designed and operated by students from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, led by ArtsConnection teaching artist Nehprii Amenii.
