SPARE SOME CHANGE: NYC ARTISTS FOR BARACK OBAMA will be held on the campus of New York University on Monday, August 11th at 8 p.m. In keeping with the inclusionary spirit of Senator Obama's revolutionary campaign, artists from all walks of life will take part in the call for change - from subway musicians and soap opera stars to Broadway luminaries.

New York International Fringe Festival 2008 Breaks Records

New York International Fringe Festival (FringeNYC), the largest multi-arts festival in North America, will present the 12th annual festival from August 8th - 24th, 2008. The festival offers works covering a wide range of disciplines including theater, dance, performance art, children's theater, spoken word, puppetry, comedy, improv and multimedia. This year, the Festival will present nearly 1200 performances by 202 of the world's best emerging theatre companies representing 7 countries (including Spain, Australia, Canada, England, Switzerland, and Mexico) and 16 US states (including Oregon, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Texas, Ohio, California, Florida and Illinois).

The AFP is reporting that archeologists have dug up the remains of a London theater that they are saying was the original theater where William Shakespeare's early works such as 'Romeo and Juliet' were performed.

MCC THEATER (Robert LuPone, Bernard Telsey, Artistic Directors; William Cantler, Associate Artistic Director; Blake West, Executive Director) today announced that Tony Award-winner Norbert Leo Butz has been signed to star opposite Elizabeth Marvel in the World Premiere Production of Michael Weller's Fifty Words, under the direction of Austin Pendleton. The two-character play begins performances at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, NYC) on September 10 and continues through October 25, with an opening night set for Sunday, September 28 at 6:30 p.m.
