Vishwa Shanthi Performing Arts, led by artistic director Shreelata Suresh, will present the dance ballet ‘Samudra Manthan’ in the classical Indian dance style of Bharatha Natyam on May 26, 2018 at 3:00 pm at the Cowell Theater, Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture, San Francisco.
This grand operatic production uses the medium of Bharatha Natyam, a 3000+ year old classical dance form of South India to enact a popular mythological story. Incorporating traditional music, poetry, facial expressions, drama and pure rhythmic dance, Shreelata and her troupe enthrall the audience’s visual and auditory senses, while providing clear English explanations to explore the inner spiritual meaning of Hindu mythological stories. Unrivalled in its breadth of emotions, this production brings out the grace, strength, humor, obstacles, deceit and conflicts of this mythical tale through a cornucopia of characters.
