La Jolla Playhouse's Hands on a Hardbody will run April 27 - June 17, 2012 in the Mandell Weiss Theatre. The world-premiere, commissioned musical has a book by Pulitzer Prize winner Doug Wright (I Am My Own Wife, Creditors), lyrics by Amanda Green (High Fidelity), music by Trey Anastasio (lead singer of the popular band Phish) and Amanda Green, with direction by Neil Pepe (Speed-the-Plow) and musical staging by Benjamin Millepied (BLACK SWAN).

Young Americans 'Glee Club' Returns to Palm Springs for Golden Anniversary, 5/12-13

The Palm Springs Cultural Center is bringing America's original Glee Club - The Young Americans - back to Palm Springs - with an all-new song and dance extravaganza designed to celebrate the Golden Anniversary of the group's founding in 1962. Two performances, featuring the latest generation of Young Americans, and some Young Americans alumni, will take place at the Palm Springs High School Auditorium on May 12th and 13th. The shows feature a wide range of music, from traditional choral music to the latest Broadway hits, and every type of dance you can imagine - from classical ballet to modern hip hop.

Adapted from William Gibson's 1957 Playhouse 90 teleplay of the same name, THE MIRACLE WORKER is based on Helen Keller's autobiography "The Story of My Life" and won several Tony Awards including Best Play. The production is directed by Shawn K. Summerer and produced by Alison Mattiza and Elizabeth Summerer by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc., New York City.

Artistic Director Sean Murray is proud to announce Cygnet Theatre's second World Premiere production - acclaimed local writer Richard Platt's RIPPLES FROM WALDEN POND - An Evening with Henry David Thoreau. This production, which began as a staged-reading in collaboration with Write Out Loud, will once again feature Cygnet Resident Artist Francis Gercke as Thoureau, and will be directed by Eric Poppick. RIPPLES FROM WALDEN POND will run for four performances only, April 16th, 17th, 23rd, and 24th at 7:30pm. All four performances will take place at Cygnet Theatre in Old Town State Historic Park.

Robert Lepage's newest Cirque du Soleil creation TOTEM, now on tour in California, features never-before-seen images of evolution through acrobatics and state-of-the-art projections. Artistic Director Tim Smith recently spoke to BroadwayWorld correspondant Audra Stafford about all things TOTEM and everything behind-the-scenes show at San Diego's Hotel Indigo. TOTEM opens in San Diego on April 25 and will make stops in Boston and Washington, D.C. this summer.

The Old Globe's Board of Directors today named Michael G. Murphy as Managing Director. Murphy was appointed Interim Managing Director in October 2011 after the resignation of CEO/Executive Producer Louis G. Spisto, who oversaw both the artistic and administrative operations of the theatre.

Poway Center for the Performing Arts Foundation's Fall 2012 Season will feature an array of artists continuing the POW! Foundation's eclectic programming. The Season begins in September with O Berkley, Where Hart Thou? featuring a line-up of San Diego folk, country and bluegrass musicians recreating the Academy Award-winning soundtrack to O Brother, Where Art Thou? Ukulele player Jake Shimabukuro takes the stage in October followed by an encore performance from Natalie MacMaster. The Fall 2012 offerings come to a conclusion with Vicki Lawrence: A Two Woman Show in December. Four more shows will be offered in the 2013 Professional Performance Season.

April 19 and 20, 2012, EarShot (the National Orchestral Composition Discovery Network) and the San Diego Symphony (SDS), Jahja Ling, Music Director, will present the San Diego Symphony New Music Readings at Copley Symphony Hall (750 B Street, San Diego). On Friday, April 20 at 10am, the public will have the opportunity for a behind-the-scenes look at the process of bringing brand new orchestral works to life, as music by the four selected composers is read by the San Diego Symphony under the baton of guest conductor, James Feddeck. The composers-Paul Frucht, David Garner, Adam Greene, and Chen-Hui Jen-were selected through a national call for scores, which included over 250 applications. Two of the composers have strong ties to San Diego: Greene is an alumnus, and Jen is a current graduate student at University of California, San Diego (UCSD). During the Readings these young composers will receive feedback from mentor composers Robert Beaser, Rand Steiger, and John Corigliano, the conductor, and SDS principal musicians.
