Rhode Island Stage Ensemble Announces THE SNOW QUEEN

Rhode Island Stage Ensemble, one of the Ocean State's premier community theater companies, is thrilled to announce our second annual "RISE Jr." production - THE SNOW QUEEN, based on the story by Hans Christian Andersen. An all-youth cast hailing from Woonsocket, Coventry, Whitinsville, Warwick, and other towns from around the RI/MA region will bring the show to life in February, 2019.

IBEX Puppetry's Ajijaak On Turtle Island Launches FirstWorks 2019 Frontier Series

FirstWorks, a Rhode Island non-profit dedicated to building community through world-class arts announces a residency with renowned contemporary puppet artist Heather Henson and her production company IBEX Puppetry. The residency will culminate in performances of the visually stunning puppet-based production, 'Ajijaak on Turtle Island,' making its premiere with FirstWorks as part of a four-city national tour. 'Ajijaak on Turtle Island' is co-directed by Henson, daughter of puppet legend Jim Henson, and Ty Defoe, a Grammy Award winner from the Oneida and Ojibwe Nations.FirstWorks' public performances of 'Ajijaak on Turtle Island' will take place at the state-of-the-art Moses Brown School Woodman Center at 250 Lloyd Avenue, Providence onThursday, January 31 and Friday, February 1, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.Tickets start at $22.50 and are available online at first-works.org or by phone at 401-421-4281. Trinity Rep will continue its 2018-19 Season with the epic tale of black odyssey by Marcus Gardley. Inspired by Homer's Odyssey, this story examines Ulysses Lincoln's journey home from war when the world - and the gods - are against him. This adventure brings the combination of history and heart together in a poignant and imaginative story that will captivate audiences. This production will feature resident acting company members, Jude Sandy and Joe Wilson, Jr. as co-directors, with Joe Wilson, Jr. as Ulysses Lincoln. black odyssey runs January 3 - February 3 with press opening on Monday, January 7 at 7:30 pm. The Brown/Trinity Rep MFA Program presents its December thesis show, tick, tick…BOOM!, directed and choreographed by Ken-Matt Martin, a third year student in the Brown/Trinity Rep MFA Directing program. Written by Jonathan Larson, the Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning composer of Rent, this rock musical set in 1990 New York City tells the story of an aspiring theater composer, as he is forced to reevaluate his passions and decide whether he should keep pursuing his dream or give it all up for a stable career. Performances run November 29 through December 9 at the Pell Chafee Performance Center, 87 Empire St., Downtown Providence. The Community Players, Rhode Island's oldest Community Theater is currently staging It's A Wonderful Life: The Musical, a musical adaptation of Frank Capra's 1946 classic. For those unfamiliar with the story, it follows George Bailey, a man who has given up his dreams in order to help others, and whose imminent suicide on Christmas Eve brings about the intervention of his guardian angel, Clarence Odbody. Clarence shows George all the lives he has touched, and how different life in his community of Bedford Falls would be if he had never been born.
