West Coast Premiere Of HOW TO CATCH CREATION Opens At OSF

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival will open How To Catch Creation, helmed by Incoming Artistic Director Nataki Garrett in her OSF directorial debut, on July 27 in the Thomas Theatre. Preview performances are July 23, 25 and 26, and the play runs through Oct. 26, 2019.
Portland Opera Announces Executive Leadership Transition

Portland Opera announces an executive leadership transition, with General Director Christopher Mattaliano, who has led the company for 16 years, transitioning to the role of Artistic Consultant beginning with the 2019-20 season. Sue Dixon, current Director of External Affairs will serve as Interim General Director as of July 15. Dixon joined the company in May 2014 as Director of Development and was named Director of External of Affairs in 2017.

PHAME Academy Begins Rehearsals For Collaborative Rock Opera

Rehearsals have begun for PHAME's collaborative rock opera, on stage this August at the Hampton Opera Center. More than thirty adults with developmental disabilities have been cast in leading and supporting roles, including five lead characters, a movement chorus, an ensemble of musicians playing iPads, and a choir. The rock opera was written by eight PHAME students in collaboration with Alexis Hamilton, Portland Opera's Manager of Education and Outreach, and is the first fully staged PHAME production written by people with developmental disabilities.

2019 JAW Playwrights Announced

This summer, the 21st Annual JAW: A Playwrights Festival brings three new plays to The Armory for two weeks of script workshopping that will culminate in the JAW Big Weekend, where public staged readings of the scripts will be presented along with performances from local artists and classes. This year's plays are What Are You Worth? by Kara Lee Korthron, an adaptation of Howards End by Caroline Hewitt, and Otto Frank by Roger Guenveur Smith.
Kaiser Permanente's Educational Theatre Program Presents Intergenerational Queer Theatre Project

In its third year, this intergenerational program brings together queer people with various levels of performing experience between the ages of 18 and 80 to to devise an original theatre performance. Participants exploring topics in mental health, how society changes, and what it means to belong to an intergenerational queer community. The program is led by Jessica Wallenfels and Jeff Desautels, with assistance from veteran director Donald St. Pierre. The rehearsal process includes workshops from local queer guest artists in spoken word, drag, circus, and vogueing.

Experience Theatre Project, Beaverton's professional immersive theater company, is proud to announce the first WESTSIDE SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL, an all-ages, three-day immersive celebration that is FREE to attend. The festival's highlight is a beautiful production of one of Shakespeare's funniest plays, The Comedy of Errors, directed by theatre veteran Brenda Hubbard and opening June 28. The play will also be featured entertainment for The Queen's Feast, an authentic five-course royal dinner on June 29 (see below).

Evren Odcikin Appointed OSF Interim Associate Artistic Director

Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Artistic Director Nataki Garrett today announced the appointment of Evren Odcikin as interim associate artistic director. Odcikin joins Christopher Acebo, OSF's associate artistic director since 2007, and others on the artistic leadership team. Along with producorial and programming responsibilities, Odcikin will also act as the artistic department liaison for resident company and other departments at OSF.

The celebration also continues Wednesday, June 19, at the Ashland Public Library with a book reading and panel discussion.
