The classical ballet set in Royal India tells the story of temple dancer Nikiya and warrior Solor, who swear eternal love but are torn apart by the jealous Gamzatti. Nikiya dies from a snake bite and Solor dreams of her in the Kingdom of the Shades; when he marries Gamzatti, the gods destroy the temple and reunite the lovers in the afterlife.
