Eqypt. Politics. Romance. SummerFest goes for Baroque with our new production of George Frederick Handel's Julius Caesar. Acclaimed countertenor and Metropolitan Opera artist Andrey Nemzer stars in a role he was born to sing, as the powerful Julius Caesar being seduced by the beauty and power of Cleopatra. History fills our intimate theater through this timeless drama sung in English with projected English titles. In the 290-some years since its premiere, Handel's Guilio Cesare in Egitto has become the world's most-performed opera of the Baroque era (just as Handel's Messiah is a beloved chorale masterpiece). But that's not all! You'll hear a total of three countertenors (who also appear in a SummerFest recital on July 10) and Pittsburgh's Chatham Baroque in the orchestra pit. Three performances only, July 15, 17 and 23. Food, pre-show entertainment, and cabaret after the opera. AAA, Group and Student discounts available.
July 15 at 7:30 pm, July 17 at 2 pm, July 23 at 7:30 pm
