President Barack Obama made his first appearance on NBC's LATE NIGHT WITH Jimmy Fallon last night. The special broadcast was taped from the campus of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Tuesday to air that same night. Dan Savage, syndicated columnist, author, co-creator of the It Gets Better Project, and star of MTV's upcoming series 'Savage U,' will anchor a 60-minute IT GETS BETTER special, which will spotlight the emotional and societal struggles many LGBT youth face. The special will air on both MTV and Logo on Tuesday, February 21 at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Celtic Thunder has been one of the great musical phenomena of the past decade. Since their debut in 2007, the Irish vocalist supergroup has conquered the world, becoming PBS favorites and topping the world music charts in the U.S. and top concert attractions everywhere. Original Celtic Thunder vocalist Paul Byrom decided in Fall of 2010 to leave the group, in order to re-locate to the States and launch his worldwide solo career with a new solo recording. President Barack Obama was in New York City yesterday to begin fundraising for his 2012 re-election campaign. As part of the visit, he invited potential endorsers to a performance of SISTER ACT as part of an event hosted by producer Whoopi Goldberg. Tickets for the special performance and evening event ranged from $250 to $10,000 (the latter of which includes a photo shoot with the President). Tony Award-winning vocalist Idina Menzel performed this week with the Nashville Symphony. Best known for her roles in the Broadway musicals Wicked and Rent, she sang a diverse selection of classic pop and musical theater favorites, as well as songs from her recent album I Stand. La MaMa presents The Movement Theatre Company (back in the club space for a limited engagement of Hope Speaks. Hope Speaks is a devised story telling piece created by Hope Speaks ensemble [Chanel Carroll, Cherrye J. Davis, Eric Lockley, Jonathan McCrory, Kimberly Young, and Kisa Willis.] and directed/conceived by Jonathan McCrory. This play was developed through TMTC's Ladder Series in 2010 and since then it has toured in Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD and is excited to be presented in the lower east side before it heads back on the road.

Yesterday, President Barack Obama will present the National Medal of Arts to eight recipients for their outstanding achievements and support of the arts. (Ten medalists were announced; however two are not able to attend the ceremony. Their medals will be presented at another time.) The medals will be presented by the president in the East Room ceremony at the White House. Mrs. Michelle Obama will also be in attendance. The National Medal of Arts is a White House initiative managed by the National Endowment for the Arts. Each year, the NEA organizes and oversees the National Medal of Arts nomination process and notifies the artists of their selection to receive a medal, the nation's highest honor for artistic excellence.

On June 2, 2010, President Barack Obama presented former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney with the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, awarded by the Library of Congress, in the East Room of the White House. The prize, named for American songwriting brothers George and Ira Gershwin, has been awarded annually since 2008 to a musician who has made exceptional contributions to the world of popular song. The prize's first recipient was Paul Simon. Last year, Stevie Wonder received the award.

In light of the recent attention on suicide amongst gay youth driven by bullies, actors, musician, politicians and more have been teaming up with the Trevor Project for the 'It Gets Better' campaign, encouraging gay or questioning youth to hold their heads high and seek help.
