While Chicago audiences have waited far more than 525,600 minutes for live theater to return to the city, it's now just a few weeks before the RENT 25th Anniversary Farewell Tour makes its way back. Javon King returns to the role of Angel for this latest tour engagement, and he reflected on how his relationship to RENT has changed since the pandemic and what he hopes audiences take away from Jonathan Larson's musical 25 years after it debuted.

Re-starting theatre after the pandemic shutdown is a bit of a challenge; theatregoers are still wary of live performances and seating is limited. Not a sustainable outlook, but it is encouraging that companies are proceeding and hopefully the outlook will improve. SF Playhouse's choice of presenting a reworking of David Shire and Richard Maltby, Jrs. 1976 musical revue Starting Here, Starting Now is successful in its modern gender bending embellishments and economy of scale.

Rent is celebrating its 25th anniversary this month! CBS This Morning chatted with Idina Menzel, one of the musical's original stars whose career kicked off thanks to Rent.

A quarter century ago, Jonathan Larson's groundbreaking musical, RENT, opened at New York Theatre Workshop. From its humble beginnings at NYTW, this rock musical went on to shape a generation. McCarter Theatre Center, Princeton University Health Services, The 24 Hour Plays and Innovations in Socially Distant Performance, a project of the Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton, will launch The Manic Monologues, a digital theatrical experience to disrupt stigma around mental illness and spotlight a conversation about mental health.
