If you don't know who the soft spoken/humble spirit Bob Sumner is, you must have been hiding under a rock for the past 25 years. Sumner was the co-creator of HBO's Def Comedy Jam, where he worked behind the scenes recruiting the best unrecognized and/or just starting out comedians in the world. As a producer (and many times talent scout), industry influencers consider Sumner a “Career Maker” in the world of comedy. He is often referred to as the “Black” Lorne Michaels (creator of Saturday Night Live and other comedy television shows), others equate him to music industry's Clarence Avant. Either way, he is definitely a force to be reckoned with, and his comic discoveries are legendary.

Last night, Eddie Murphy returned to host Saturday Night Live for the first time in 35 years.

Comedy Central's vibrant voice Dulcé Sloan will grab the mic for three nights of stand-up at The Second City's UP Comedy Club January 3-5. The show will be hosted by three-time Second City NBCUniversal Break Out Comedy Festival performer Alex Kumin and will feature another Comedy Central face, Dave Helem.

 HBO Max has greenlit four new stand-up comedy specials. Tapping into existing talent across the WarnerMedia portfolio, the streamer is teaming up with Tracy Morgan (The Last O.G.), John Early (Search Party), and rising stars Rose Matafeo, Edinburgh Comedy Award winner, and Ahir Shah, double Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee.

Nickelodeon's hit preschool series Bubble Guppies will make a splash with the debut of an all-new season and a brand-new guppy on Friday, Sept. 27, at 12 p.m. (ET/PT). Season five of Bubble Guppies (26 half-hour episodes) will introduce Zooli, a spunky and smart student, animal expert and fin-tastic friend to the guppies' school class. Together, the guppies will dance, sing, play and learn valuable lessons as they embark on all-new underwater adventures.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles (BAFTA Los Angeles) is pleased to announce that writer, director, producer Jordan Peele, whose films Us and Get Out have created a new genre of socially-conscious horror, will receive The John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing. He joins previously announced honorees Jane Fonda, who will receive the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film Presented by Cunard, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who will receive the Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year, Jackie Chan, who will receive the Albert R. Broccoli Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Entertainment, and Steve Coogan, who will receive the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy Presented by Jaguar Land Rover.
