Austin Shakespeare's upcoming season brings back their most popular playwrights and a new collaboration. 

Tickets are on sale for the world premiere of Textplay, by Archer Eland, a virtual play that may be the world's first text play.  In Textplay, presented by NYU Skirball, dialog appears as an exchange of text messages that can be viewed on mobile and desktop devices. It is available On Demand, September 20 - December 3, and can watched from anywhere in the world. Running time is 35 minutes.

The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre has announced the appointment of Rachel Walshe as associate artistic director, effective this 2022-23 season. Walshe has directed and served as dramaturg on numerous Gamm productions since 2010, and is also the theater's resident scholar. As an assistant professor of performance at URI, she has focused her work on women writers and new play development.

i am a slow tide, a performance and media collective founded by director Gus Heagerty, is  presenting the world premiere of The Gold Room by Jacob Perkins, which marks the playwright’s professional debut. Starring Scott Parkinson and Robert Stanton, The Gold Room is an acerbic, mind-bending fall into the genesis of queer identity.

Jonathan Groff will star as “Franklin” and Lindsay Mendez will star as “Mary” in Merrily We Roll Along at New York Theatre Workshop. Merrily We Roll Along features music & lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and a book by George Furth. They join the previously announced Daniel Radcliffe, who will star as “Charley”.

Eighteen new plays for the inaugural New Play Commission Scheme (NPCS) have been announced by the Writers' Guild of Great Britain (WGGB) in partnership with HighTide theatre company, UK Theatre and the Independent Theatre Council.
