Before RENT, there was Tick, Tick... Boom! After a sold out run of RENT this past summer, Theatre444 brings you a new vision of another Larson cult favorite.

Chance Theater will present the California Premiere of “Ride the Cyclone.” This musical will preview from January 27 through February 3, and regular performances will begin February 4th and continue through February 26.

On the heels of becoming the highest-grossing domestic and global film of 2022, the studio’s #1 film of all time, as well as the #1 best-selling Digital release ever, Paramount announced that TOP GUN: MAVERICK is the most watched movie globally in its premiere weekend streaming on Paramount +.

The film stars Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer and Emily Blunt as his wife, biologist and botanist Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer. Matt Damon portrays General Leslie Groves Jr., director of the Manhattan Project, and Robert Downey, Jr. plays Lewis Strauss, a founding commissioner of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. Today's subject Aaron Posner is what I call a GOD of DC theatre. He is arguably one of the best interpreters of Shakespeare, Chekov, and so much more. His current production of The Tempest (co-director and co-adapter with Teller, yes, of Penn and Teller) is onstage at Round House Theatre through January 15th. The show is a co-production with Aaron's frequent DC theatre home Folger Theatre.

What did our critic think of PALM SPRINGS GETAWAY at Palm Canyon Theatre? Palm Canyon Theatre has revived a new, streamlined version of Palm Springs Getaway, their original 'musical romp' which they premiered last season. I'll start right out by confessing that I was in the original production so I know it well, though I never actually 'saw' it. I'm delighted to report that playwright Cara Van Dijk, aided by Eric Stein-Steele and Se Layne, has kept the best of the first production and replaced a few of the previously weak moments with some very strong scenes. The result is a tuneful, educational, nostalgic and totally enjoyable couple of hours.

Angels Theatre Company will present the premiere of PREDICTOR, a play based on the real-life story of Margaret Crane who, in 1967, defied all odds and expectations to become the inventor of the first home pregnancy test.

The League of Chicago Theatres has announced the 2023 Samuel G. Roberson Jr. Resident Fellowship, an annual grant awarded to a Black Theatre Artist to fund a residency or collaboration with a Chicago area non-profit organization. This year the award will go to an Artivist – an individual who combines art with activism.

Becky Nurse of Salem, a new play by Sarah Ruhl, directed by Rebecca Taichman, opened last night (Sunday, December 4) at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. Check out all new video footage here!

What did our critic think of RIDE THE CYCLONE at Tower Grove Abbey? A tragic rollercoaster ride and a cryptic prophecy from a mechanical fortune teller set the stage for a thrill ride season finale from Stray Dog Theatre. From the onset Ride the Cyclone, establishes itself as a quirky musical with emotional poignancy and plenty of laughs.

It’s clear that a tremendous amount of talent, effort, and care has gone into this telling of The Tempest, and those affiliated certainly deserve high praise. Do yourself a favor and go see this production.
