Voyage Theater Company/PARTS UNKNOWN Play Reading Series will present a staged reading of SEASHELL SWEETIE, written by Aurora Stewart de Peña and directed by Rose Burnett Bonczek, at the 53rd Street New York Public Library (18 W 53rd Street, across the street from MoMA) on Thursday December 12 at 7pm. Admission is FREE and open to the public, but reservations are highly encouraged. Please RSVP here. The performance will run approximately 75 minutes with no intermission. There will be a brief talkback with the playwright and director immediately following the reading.

A signalman is haunted by a mysterious figure standing at the mouth of a train tunnel. He's sure it's a warning - but what is it warning against? The Signalman was Charles Dickens' final completed work, written after the writer himself had survived a train crash. This adaptation by Martin Malcolm ('Warped' - VAULT Festival 2019) remains faithful to the original text but also incorporates other aspects of Dickens' writing, including the introduction of Joe the crossing sweeper, who listens as the signalman's tale unfolds.

Ariela Morgenstern's story is a variation on the old chestnut 'local girl makes good.' The San Francisco native returned home a few years ago after a fruitful decade based in New York. BroadwayWorld spoke with her shortly after she had begun rehearsals for that Mount Everest of a role, Gypsy's Momma Rose. Morgenstern is a multi-talented performer with a career that encompasses musical theater, opera and cabaret. And as if that didn't keep her busy enough, she also has a toddler at home. In conversation she is warm and earthy, with a wry perspective indicating a strong sense of who she is in this world.

Production has begun on Disney Junior's 'The Chicken Squad,' a new animated series for preschoolers and their families slated to debut in 2020. Inspired by Doreen Cronin's popular book series, 'The Chicken Squad' follows Coop, Little Boo and Sweetie-a trio of young chicken siblings-and Captain Tully, a seasoned watchdog, who use teamwork and critical thinking skills to solve problems in THE NEIGHBORHOOD and keep the peace in their backyard. The announcement was made today by Joe D'Ambrosia, senior vice president, Original Programming and General Manager, Disney Junior.
