What did our critic think of A DIFFERENT POND at Stages Theatre Company?

Parity Productions, the New York-based theatre company dedicated to producing new work by women, trans, and gender-expansive playwrights and filling at least 80% of the creative positions (playwrights, directors, and designers) with women, trans, and gender-expansive artists, has awarded two commissions to SAM MUELLER for 70.3 and JORDAN RAMIREZ PUCKETT for En Las Sombras.

THE TONGUE OF THE FLAME, the bold and raw dance/theater duet, conceived, co-choreographed, and performed by internationally acclaimed dancers DANIEL FETECUA SOTO and BLAKELEY WHITE-McGUIRE returns for performances November 18 & 19 at 7:30pm at the Westbeth Studio Theater.

Beginning on November 9 and running through December 11, Studio Theatre will bring Duncan Macmillan's People, Places & Things to the stage. The play will be directed by Studio Theatre Artistic Director David Muse, making his first in-person directorial appearance since the pandemic, and will be only the second production in Studio Theatre's new Victor Shargai Theatre. 

Florida Studio Theatre (FST) has announced that two new staff members have joined the theatre’s expanding team. Alex Price is FST’s new Production Manager, taking over responsibilities from the theatre’s previous Director of Production, Bruce Price, who worked at FST for 20 years. Jay Lockaby has joined FST’s Development department as Major Gifts Officer.

Robin Gerber’s play  The Shot, directed by  Michelle Joyner, will get a New York presentation as part of the 2022 United Solo Festival, starring multi-award-winning actress  Sharon Lawrence. Performances begin on  October 27.

Next month, The Studio Theatre™ Tierra del Sol (806 San Marino Drive, The Villages, FL) opens a REGIONAL PREMIER and the second production of its seventh season, The Chinese Lady by Lloyd Suh.   

Rattlestick Theater will present the world premiere of THE GETT, written by emerging playwright Liba Vaynberg, starting November 9th, 2022. THE GETT is a deeply personal story that raises key questions about love, loss, and personal regeneration post-crisis.

NewYorkRep will present a special one-night-only benefit reading of Spare Rib, a new play by Winter Miller, Monday, October 24 at New World Stages. Proceeds from the special event will benefit WRRAP, the Women’s Reproductive Rights Assistance Project.

Portland Center Stage and Boom Arts are partnering on their first co-production, Kristina Wong’s witty, tour-de-force look at the early days of the pandemic, Kristina Wong, Sweatshop Overlord. The play begins preview performances on November 5, opens on November 11, and runs through December 18 in the Ellyn Bye Studio at The Armory.

Writer/performer/comedian Gara (Bros) is set to direct the world premiere of Hannah Burke's self-made martyr at the United Solo Theatre Festival. Unstoppable Theater will present the original solo performance piece, written and performed by Hannah Burke, at Theatre Row's Studio Theatre on Friday, November 4th, 2022, at 7pm.

Ensemble Studio Theatre (EST) has announced complete casting for the 38th Marathon of One-Act Plays, which will be fully comprised of work from artists who identify as Black, Indigenous & People of Color (BIPOC). This year's selection of eleven plays was curated by Co-Artistic Directors Mike Lew (Teenage Dick) and Colette Robert (Behind the Sheet). Ten plays will be presented across two different series from Sunday October 16 through Sunday November 13 at EST.

West End Diva Rosemary Ashe pays tribute to national treasure Dora Bryan in a tour of Adorable Dora. opening at the Lighthouse Theatre, Poole on 19 October before visiting Guildford, Bromley, Bingley, Bracknell, Surbiton and Hastings.

Florida Studio Theatre (FST) announces its lineup of upcoming FST Improv performances October 8 – December 31, 2022. From the no-holds-barred comedy showdown Out of Bounds and the improvised holiday musical, Treble in Paradise, to a comedic whodunit, To Die For, and more, this fall season features a wide array of performance styles and techniques.

From October 21 to November 19, 2022, SpeakEasy Stage Company will present the Boston premiere of ENGLISH, Sanaz Toossi’s award-winning play.

Berkeley Repertory Theatre’s Artistic Director Johanna Pfaelzer and Director of the Ground Floor Madeleine Oldham announced the Residency Lab participants and the return to full capacity of the Residency Lab portion of The Ground Floor: Berkeley Rep’s Center for the Creation and Development of New Work.

GHOSTS OF BOGOTÁ is the first production in Stray Cat’s intrepid lineup. Playwright Diana Burbano (also an accomplished actress), has fashioned a dark, irreverent comedy, riffing on the incongruous motif of sexual trauma and unholy exorcism. It thumbs its nose on conventions of space and time — as it should, given the task of probing the collective unconscious and whipping up a contentious dialogue with deceased relatives.  Consider Kushner’s – or Ruhl’s – penchant for magical realism, but through the unique lens of  the Latinx experience. Burbano dispenses a delectable sass while flouting the spectral realm of departed kin. She checks the boxes, if you will, and treads where lesser dramatists might opt for a quick detour.

Jim Gaffigan will embark on an all new “Dark Pale Tour” headed across the U.S. in 2023 including a tour stop in Melbourne’s King Center for the Performing Arts for the FIRST TIME EVER on Sunday, January 29, 2023.
