Goodman Theatre Announces Venue And Date Changes For Two Spring 2020 Productions

Artistic Director Robert Falls announces an update to Goodman Theatre's 2019/2020 Season. The Chicago premiere of School Girls; Or, the African Mean Girls Play by Jocelyn Bioh, directed by Lili-Anne Brown, originally scheduled for the Owen Theatre, will move into the 856-seat Albert Theatre; the Falls-directed major revival of Molly Sweeney by Brian Friel, originally scheduled for the Albert Theatre, will move into the 350-seat flexible Owen Theatre.

BTE Adds American Sign Language For 2019-2020 Season

Buffalo Theatre Ensemble (BTE), the professional Equity company in residence at the McAninch Arts Center, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn, is adding American Sign Language (ASL) to one performance of each of the three productions in its 2019-2020 Three-Play Season. ASL is the predominant sign language of Deaf communities in the United States and English-speaking parts of Canada

2019 Special Jeff Award Goes To Teatro Vista

The Jeff Awards will honor Teatro Vista with the 2019 Special Equity Jeff Award at the Equity Ceremony at Drury Lane Oakbrook on October 21, 2019. Over the last three decades, Teatro Vista has theatrically depicted the human experience from its unique Latinx perspective. Founded in 1989 by actors Henry Godinez and Eddie Torres to provide a platform upon which stories born of and relevant to the Latino culture could be heard, Teatro Vista has enriched the Chicago theatre scene with haunting, humorous, historical and magical stories. Teatro Vista, now under the artistic direction of Ricardo Gutierrez, continues to challenge and entertain Chicago audiences with its gifted ensemble of dynamic artists.

Broadway-Bound SIX & More Earn Nominations For The 51st Annual Jeff Awards

Eleven world premiere plays and musicals seen first by Chicago audiences were among those receiving nominations by the Jeff Awards, announced today. A total of 192 nominations were made in 34 categories that honor Chicago Equity theatrical productions that opened between August 1, 2018 and July 31, 2019. During the 2018-19 season, Jeff Awards judges attended opening nights of 132 Equity productions offered by 43 producing organizations and from these openings, 112 productions were a?oeJeff Recommendeda?? and eligible for award nominations.

Redtwist Announces New Leadership

About one year ago, Redtwist embarked on a transition to find new leadership in order to continue its mission of producing powerful drama in an intimate storefront setting. The search is now complete and the position of Redtwist Artistic Director was offered to Charlie Marie McGrath. Charlie accepted the offer and she will soon relocate from Washington, D.C., to Chicago. Her tenure will begin on September 1, 2019, as we launch into the new season. On that date, Redtwist founder and current Artistic Director, Michael Colucci, will wrap up his administrative duties, while remaining a member of the company.

Acclaimed Director Kimberly Senior Joins Goodman Theatre's Artistic Collective

Artistic Director Robert Falls has named Kimberly Senior the newest member of Goodman Theatre's Artistic Collective-ten American theater artists whose work has cemented the theater's international reputation for excellence over three decades. The Collective, which Falls established when he became Artistic Director, currently includes award-winning playwrights, directors and actors: Brian Dennehy, Rebecca Gilman, Henry Godinez, Dael Orlandersmith, Steve Scott, Chuck Smith, Regina Taylor, Henry Wishcamper and Mary Zimmerman.

Steve Scott To Direct World Premiere At JPAS

Renowned stage director Steve Scott has been slated to direct JPAS's production of the hilarious musical comedy 'How to Kill a Diva' that opens on May 24 at the Westwego Performing Arts Theatre.  The producer at Chicago's Goodman Theatre for over 30 years, Scott is currently a member of the Goodman's Artistic Collective. The Goodman Theatre has won international praise for the quality of its productions including a Tony Award as the nation's outstanding regional theatre.

The World Premiere Of LOTTERY DAY Concludes Ike Holter's Seven-Play Saga

"Not everyone will go home a winner" in Goodman Theatre's world-premiere production of Lottery Day by Ike Holter, which appears through April 28 in the Owen Theatre. Holter concludes his seven-play "Rightlynd Saga"-the first play of which premiered five years ago, and has been hailed as "one of the most significant literary achievements in modern-day Chicago" (Chicago Tribune)-with a raucous theatrical bash, directed by Chicago native Lili-Anne Brown. Commissioned by the Goodman and developed through its New Stages Festival of new plays, Lottery Day takes place in a Rightlynd backyard where new characters and returning characters from the saga come together to create a work about the cost of belonging and the gift of community. Lottery Day appears through April 28 in the Owen Theatre.
