Lyric Stage Presents OKLAHOMA!, 6/15-24

Lyric Stage presents Rodgers & Hammerstein's OKLAHOMA!, with music by Richard Rodgers, book by Oscar Hammerstein II, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and original Dances by Agnes de Mille, based on the play GREEN GROW THE LILACS by Lynn Riggs. The show runs June 15-24, 2012 in the Irving Arts Center's Carpenter Performance Hall, 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving, Texas. Performances are June 15, 16, 21, 22 & 23 @ 8:00 PM and June 17 & 24 @ 2:30 PM. Tickets are available online @ www.lyricstage.org or by calling the box office @ 972-252-2787.

This summer, the sixth year of Movie Mondays, Segerstrom Center will screen five great films on the Arts Plaza: Billy Elliot, the coming-of-age story about an English coal miner's son who dreams of being a ballet dancer; the classic An American in Paris featuring a score by George and Ira Gershwin and starring Gene Kelly, Leslie Caron and Oscar Levant; Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas being presented in partnership with public radio station KCRW-Santa Monica (89.9 FM and www.KCRW.com); Yentl starring the incomparable Barbra Streisand and the musical comedy The Music Man with Robert Preston and Shirley Jones, which was chosen as the Audience Favorite in an on-line poll by last summer's attendees.

BroadwayWorld.com has learned details about a recent reading of the Guthrie Theatre's upcoming production of ROMAN HOLIDAY in Minneapolis. Starring in the reading, directed by John Miller-Stephany were Laura Osnes as Princess Ann and John Behlmann as Joe Bradley. They rest of the reading cast featured many of the area's top local talent. We're told that the reading went quite well, and that the song choices, which of course include some of Porter's biggest hits like 'Easy to Love,' 'Begin the Beguine,' 'Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye' and 'Riding High' also included many rarely heard gems that 'fit perfectly into the story.' Also in attendance for the staged reading were book writer Paul Blake and other members of the creative team.
