 ‘Tis the season at Miami-Dade County Auditorium (MDCA) as South Florida’s favorite holiday performances return to the stage to delight audiences starting in December.

The holidays, for many of us, are for family, food, and good cheer. They are also a time where tradition plays a major role. From favorite dishes around the holiday table to annual visits to see Santa Claus at the mall, traditions help ground us and connect us to a time when things were simpler. And nothing screams holiday traditions like the annual viewing of Christmas classics like the Claymation staple, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. But this year, that tradition is being brought to technicolor life on stage at the Titusville Playhouse in a new and exciting production of RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER, a stage musical based on the classic Christmas special.

Dutch Apple Dinner Theater kicked off the holiday season with their current production of Miracle on 34th Street. I had assumed that this was a new musical based on the classic film, but after doing a little digging, it turns out it was written in 1963 by Meredith Wilson, creator of The Music Man. The show seems fresh with a few exceptions.

robot. A cowgirl. The Christmas compound where Santa and Mrs. Claus reside. Christmas Creek, a frontier town on the North Pole. An aging Santa and his rickety if renowned sleigh. An evil elf who has his own plans and a new, high-speed sleigh in Beta testing that runs on starlight, a sustainable version of the old-fashioned sleigh through the ages.

The Ridgefield Playhouse is adding a touch of Celtic flair to the holiday season with Christmas with the Celts on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at 8pm. 

The cast of Downtown Cabaret Theatre's The Santa Story is having a blast in rehearsals. The world premiere TYA musical tells the heartwarming and hilarious story of a young St. Nick and his journey to become Santa Claus. The perfect blend of music, mayhem, and merriment for the whole family that is sure to have audiences ringing jingle bells this holiday season.

Now in its 17th year, Vintage Christmas in Portsmouth still transforms what National Geographic Traveler described as “possibly the greatest small town in the USA,” into a picture-postcard winter wonderland. 

Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and their families perform a holiday medley in their Christmas celebration filmed in 1967 that has not been seen in its entirety since its original airing on December 21, 1967. If it just isn't Christmas until you've heard Lady Bunny butcher your favorite Christmas carol, you are sure to be joyful and triumphant as the legendary drag icon presents the World Premiere of LADY BUNNY: OH, COME ALL YE HATEFUL! beginning December 8 at The Laurie Beechman Theatre.

The Troubies’ Holidaze show SANTA CLAUS IS COMIN’ TO MOTOWN will open at the Garry Marshall Theatre November 23, 2021. Troubies’ artistic director Matt Walker directs the talented cast of veteran Troubies with some Noubies. A hilarious mainstay of many a Troubie production Rick Batalla took some time from his daily antics to fill me in on some behind-the-scenes of his history with the Troubadour Theater Company.

Derek Hough, Julianne Hough and Ariana DeBose will serve as hosts for “The Wonderful World of Disney: Magical Holiday Celebration.” The special will also feature performances from Kristin Chenoweth, Darren Criss, Sebastián Yatra, Gwen Stefani, and more. The Houghs, Chenoweth, and Criss will also return for the Disney Holiday Parade.

The Empress Productions & Cooper Jordan Entertainment announce the 42nd Street opening of the 2019 hit Off-Broadway Santa show Santa’s Sing-A-Long at Theatre Row, following their Northeast Tour.

Pacific Chorale's beloved family-friendly holiday extravaganza “Tis the Season!” will fill the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa with festive musical cheer and delightful sonic wonder.
