by Stephi Wild
- Mar 1, 2019
The often-debated relationship between faith and science is at the very heart of the riveting drama, INHERIT THE WIND, which opens Saturday evening, March 16, at The Lewis and Shirley White Theatre of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City. Raising issues as relevant today as they were when it was written in 1925, INHERIT THE WIND uses the Scopes Monkey Trial to explore this complex - and sometimes adversarial -- relationship. The drama has engagement of six performances at The White Theatre: Saturday evenings, March 16 & 23 at 7:30 p.m., Sundays March 17 & 24 @ 2 p.m. and Thursday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. A Schools-Only performance will take place on Wednesday, March 20 a 9 a.m. More information on the school performance, please contact the White Theatre Box Office, (913) 327-8054.

- Nov 17, 2018
To see INHERIT THE WIND, in its current iteration at Theatre Artists Studio, is to revisit the endless battle between open-minded reason and the intolerance of blind faith. It is, as well, a golden opportunity to witness two bears of the stage ~ Michael Fleck and Tom Koelbel ~ have at each other in their portrayals of the goliaths that put the trial of the century on the map. Runs through December 9th.

by A.A. Cristi
- Oct 19, 2018
Lakewood Theatre Company continues its 66th season of live theatre with Inherit the Wind, an enduring courtroom drama by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee (Auntie Mame, The First Monday in October). Based on the real-life 1925 Tennessee case known as the Scopes "monkey" trial, two famed attorneys, based on William Jennings Bryan and Clarence Darrow, go head to head in a small town courtroom. In an era where politicians and community leaders still clash over the separation of church and state in the classroom, this timely production shows us what can happen when courage takes the stand.
BWW Review: Life Is a Banquet as MTG Presents a Delicious MAME
by Don Grigware
- Sep 25, 2018
Jerry Herman's second great triumph following the success of Hello Dolly! was Mame in 1966 and a triumphant Broadway debut for Tony winning Angela Lansbury. Based on Patrick Dennis' memoir of his wildly eccentric aunt, the story lent itself beautifully to Herman's upbeat score. It is rarely revived, and thanks to the Musical Theatre Guild, who do fully staged readings of old or lesser known musicals, we got a lovely presentation on Sunday September 23 at the Alex Theatre in Glendale.

BWW Review: SHOPWORN at Capital Fringe Festival is a Real Diamond in the Rough
by Sam Abney
- Jul 19, 2018
With over 80 plays to choose from, Capital Fringe Festival can be overwhelming for the average theatergoer. There are plenty of good choices ranging from over-the-top comedies to funky experimental dramas to allegories and satires and everything in between. Obviously, with so many offerings, there will be works that fail to execute their artistic vision effectively. Thankfully, Derek Hills's Shopworn, which opened on Tuesday night at Capital Fringe's Orange venue (Christ United Methodist Church), is a true diamond in the rough: a family drama that provides modern commentary without getting too preachy. It is thoroughly delightful and a perfect selection for Fringe veterans and first-timers alike.
BWW Review: MAME at North Shore Music Theatre
by David Tompkins
- Jun 7, 2018
The classic Musical 'Mame' opened the 2018 season last night at NSMT. The Musical by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, with Lyrics by Jerry Herman, and based on the book by Patrick Dennis, is a 1966 Musical Theatre warhorse that has starred such luminaries as, Rosalind Russell, Angela Landsbury, and even Lucille Ball, in the ill-fated 1970's movie.
