54 Below will welcome back Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown after a sold-out August performance. The creator of 13, The Bridges of Madison County, and more returns on September 11 at 7pm.

Jason Robert Brown brought his music, lyrics, vocals, fearless pianistic virtuosity, along with Shoshana Bean and a string section to 54 Below.  The overflow audience in Broadway’s supper club was treated  to an extraordinary evening of great music and JBR wit. Even though they are not related, there must be a common music DNA molecule that exists in George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, and Billy Joel, that was also passed on to Jason Robert Brown. His performance last night at Feinstein’s/54 Below encompassed some of the creative talents of all of those musical giants. Jason Robert Brown, the composer, the arranger,  the lyricist, the pianist, and the singer, was on the stage of Feinstein’s/54 Below with nine (yes, nine) great musicians, plus vocalists Anastasia Talley and Cheeyang Ng. 

Jason Robert Brown is much more than just an award-winning writer, and one hopes he will never stop showing just how much more, by way of great concert appearances.

Artists Striving to End Poverty is celebrating its Twelfth Annual New York City Christmas: A Concert to Benefit ASTEP, taking place on Monday, December 13th at 7:00 PM at Joe’s Pub at The Public in New York City.

In many ways, Jason Robert Brown’s show focused on the metaphorical prison we are all just emerging from as we slowly return to something resembling our former lives. As he pointed out, as much as we try to put the pieces back in place, there are simply things that have gone away, maybe for good. Maybe not. No one can really be sure. His lyrics have always been a glimpse inside a mind that obsesses on the big questions. But in light of the traumatic year the world has been through, they seem ripe with new meanings about where we’ve been and where we’re heading.

Craft Recordings and Concord Theatricals recently released the official album for Tony Award-winning composer/lyricist Jason Robert Brown’s Spring 2020 virtual SubCulture concert, featuring Ariana Grande and Shoshana Bean. “Coming From Inside The House (A Virtual SubCulture Concert)” was recorded for a one-night video streaming event on April 27, 2020 and was originally presented as a benefit for the SubCulture staff and musicians from the Jason Robert Brown Artist-in-Residence concerts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 17th Annual Broadway Unplugged was held at the Merkin Concert Hall last night, October 13.

Forty years ago, two visionary leaders - Isaiah Sheffer and Allan Miller- took over an abandoned Upper West Side theater for an all-day free marathon concert called Wall to Wall Bach.  This event founded Symphony Space, and every year since 1978, Symphony Space has been presenting free marathon Wall to Wall events, hailed by The New York Times as 'an annual gift to the city of New York.'  In its 40th anniversary year, Symphony Space's signature concert event celebrates the centennial of a cherished American composer: Leonard Bernstein.  This FREE marathon concert will honor Bernstein's legacy with music, dance, conversation, film clips, and more, exploring the many facets of his creative life (May 19th, 3pm-11pm, Peter Jay Sharp Theatre, 95th and Broadway).
