BroadwayWorld is sad to share the news today that legendary filmmaker Rick McKay has passed away earlier this week. A longtime friend of the web site, and constant presence in the theatre world, McKay has long been at work on two sequels to his 2004 hit film, Broadway: The Golden Age.

It was announced today that the hilarious new Broadway musical comedy THE PROM will star Tony Award Nominee Brooks Ashmanskas (Something Rotten!), Tony Award Winner Beth Leavel (The Drowsy Chaperone), two-time Tony Award Nominee Christopher Sieber (Shrek the Musical), Caitlin Kinnunen (Bridges of Madison County), Isabelle McCalla (Aladdin), Michael Potts (Jitney), Angie Schworer (The Producers), Courtenay Collins (Broadway Debut) and Josh Lamon (Groundhog Day) and will officially open on Broadway on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at a Shubert theater to be announced.

Casting has been announced for Rhinoceros, the first play in the Politics of the Absurd reading series presented by Christopher Maring/ CM Stage Productions. Joining the reading will be Blake DeLong (Illyria; Othello; Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812), Larry Owens (Gigantic, FAT CAMP, Grease at the MUNY), Colby Minife (Six Degrees of Separation, Long Day's Journey Into Night, Jessica Jones ) Daniel K. Isaac ( Billions , Search Party , Underland), Brian D. Coats (Jitney, Boardwalk Empire , The Merry Wives of Windsor), Deirdre Madigan (Sweat, Daredevil , Exit Strategy), and Natalie Walker (Puffs, Search Party , Clockwork). Rhinoceros, written by Eugene Ionesco and directed by Srda Vesiljevic (Dust Can't Kill Me, When I Started Dating Men), will take place at the Baruch Performing Arts Center on February 5, 6, and 7.

Lee, who originated the role of Connie in A Chorus Line, will be discussing her extensive life and work in the theatre with theatre writer ROBERT VIAGAS, her collaborator and biographer on their book, 'On the Line: the Creation of A Chorus Line'.The event will take place in the Bruno Walter Auditorium of the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts on 65th Street & Amsterdam Avenue. So what happens now for Hal Prince's international tour of Evita? Broadway- according to a recent interview with the Straits Times. The production, which opened in Johannesburg, South Africa last fall, and which was reviewed by BroadwayWorld during its Cape Town stop last month, is on its way to play Singapore, Australia and Japan, before bringing the Rainbow tour home to Broadway.
