I decided to speak with Audrey Babcock about taking on the challenging role of Santuzza as well as her history of performing opera around the world.

Lyric season opens with a double does of opera vérité

Lyric Opera of Kansas City General Director and CEO Deborah Sandler Kemper today announced the 2023-2024 season-opening  production, a double bill of ALL NEW productions of Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci, conceived by Shawna Lucey and designed by Steven C. Kemp.

San Francisco Opera announced a cast change for Giuseppe Verdi’s Il Trovatore, which opens Tuesday, September 12 and is the first opera of the Company’s 101st season. Mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Semenchuk will perform the role of Azucena in all performances, replacing Anita Rachvelishvili who has withdrawn for personal reasons.

Opera San José will launch its 40th anniversary season with an all-new production of Charles Gounod's Romeo and Juliet, directed by OSJ General Director/CEO Shawna Lucey, in her first production since taking the helm of the company. Romeo and Juliet follows on the heels of Lucey's critically acclaimed La Traviata for San Francisco Opera, which is scheduled to be remounted at Los Angeles Opera this fall.

On June 30th and July 1st, Friday and Saturday, at 8:30 pm, Teatro Sergio Cardoso presents the opera Cavalleria Rusticana, by composer Pietro Mascagni. The piece is the first presentation of the project “A Caminho do Interior”, a promotion of the Consulate General of Italy in Sao Paulo in partnership with the Instituto Italiano di Cultura San Paolo.

Pagliacci / Cavalleria rusticana is now playing at the National Theatre in Prague. Performances will play through 19 March 2024.
