Metropolis Performing Arts Centre has announced its 2021-2022 season. The 2021-2022 Season at Metropolis includes a series of popular theater productions: Groovy ‘60s musical revue SHOUT! The Mod Musical (September 16 – October 30, 2021); Thought provoking bio-musical Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill (January 27 – March 12, 2022) and more.

This week's list includes The Stephen Sondheim Encyclopedia, the original cast recording of Fangirls, and a book of interviews with Broadway's leading men, including Joel Grey, Ben Vereen, Norm Lewis, Gavin Creel, Cheyenne Jackson, and Jonathan Groff.

Five richly talented singers rock the stage in Arizona Broadway Theatre’s production of SHOUT! THE MOD MUSICAL, Phillip George and David Lowenstein’s 2004 tribute to the solid gold singles of the ‘60’s. Directed by Seth Tucker and featuring five fab singers, the show runs through April 18th.

With its irresistible blend of hip-swiveling hits, eye-popping fashions, and outrageous dance moves, SHOUT! The Mod Musical takes audiences back to the music, style, and freedom of the 1960s. Created by Phillip George and David Lowenstein, SHOUT! features terrific new arrangements of such classic tunes as To Sir with Love, Downtown, Son of a Preacher Man, and Goldfinger.

Internationally acclaimed singer, songwriter, recording artist, and actress Petula Clark will be honored at the 36th annual Bistro Awards on Friday, April 30. This virtual special event will have its premiere screening at 8 pm. Ms. Clark will be receiving the Bob Harrington Lifetime Achievement Award for her eight decades of artistic accomplishments.

Petula Clark first arrived in America as the distaff member of the historic British invasion of the ‘60s. Her iconic single “Downtown” soared up the charts, the first in a series of memorable hits that won the hearts of listeners.

The review follows five groovy gals as they come of age during those glorious days that made England swing. Traveling in time from 1960 to 1970, SHOUT! chronicles the dawning liberation of women, from the rise of Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark, and Cilla Black as independent women with major careers, to their American counterparts, redefining themselves in the face of changing attitudes about gender. With a shimmy and shake, the songs are tied together by hilarious sound bites from the period – from '60s advertisements to letters answered by an advice columnist who thinks that every problem can be solved with a “fetching new hairstyle and a new shade of lipstick.

I thought I’d compile some of the highlights from each show I saw as not only a way for me to remember some pre-COVID times but to also give advice for theatregoers once the West End begins to reopen.

A glittering new 'Covid-Secure' production of SHOUT! the Mod Musical is being produced at Upstairs at the Gatehouse, Highgate Village, from 10 March until 18 April 2021, with Press Night on 12 March 2021 at 7.30pm.

Cameron Mackintosh with First Night Records and Warner Music have officially released the new live cast recording of the Olivier Award winning hit West End production of Mary Poppins today, Friday, November 6. Mary Poppins returned to its original home in the Prince Edward Theatre last October.

The release of the brand new 2020 Mary Poppins cast recording could not have come along at a better time. We have just entered into a second national lockdown, which has meant that some theatres starting to get back on their feet have had the rug pulled out from under them again. Spirits are low, universally but especially across the arts industry, so this recording is an absolute tonic.
