Last Wednesday, Sustainable Film/TV Producer Antonio Saillant set sail with the Titanic at the Manatee Performing Arts Center with friends.

Roundabout Theatre Company will present the Roundabout Underground world premiere of Exception to the Rule by Dave Harris (2022 Outer Critics Circle awards nominee, Tambo & Bones), directed by Roundabout Resident Director Miranda Haymon.

The musical 1776 finds John Adams attempting to cajole and bully his fellow members of the Continental Congress to create and sign the Declaration of Independence and vote for a separation from English tyranny. But how much is he willing to compromise in the pursuit of this newfound freedom? 1776 The musical, with music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards and a book by Peter Stone, premiered on Broadway in 1969 and won three Tony Awards, including Best Musical. In 1972, it was also made into a film adaptation. This Tony award winning musical will feature the efforts of 30 talented actors from the greater Columbus area, including well known and long-standing member of the Columbus theatre community, Bill Goldsmith playing the part of John Adams. Roundabout Theatre Company has announced production plans for its 2022-2023 theatrical season, including the Off-Broadway plays for The Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre and full programming Off-Broadway for the Black Box Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre.

Scenic Designer Scott Pask and Costume Designer Emilio Sosa visited the 1776 rehearsal to share their designs with the company.

Milwaukee Repertory Theater presents the five-time Tony Award-winning musical Titanic The Musical with story and book by Peter Stone, Music and Lyrics by Maury Yeston and Orchestrations by Joshua Clayton in the Quadracci Powerhouse, April 6 – May 14, 2022. 

Porchlight Music Theatre has announced its 28th season that includes the 2022 – 2023 Mainstage, Porchlight Revisits and New Faces Sing Broadway series. Mainstage and Porchlight Revisits performances take place at The Ruth Page Center for the Arts, 1016 N. Dearborn Street.

Though the play was performed on stage to a live audience, the Center also made it possible to enjoy the musical live-streamed from the comfort of our homes. Images of the ship and the sounds of clanging bells, water, and seagulls prepared us for the coming story. Every actor in the show played a character based on a real person who sailed on the ship, with several playing multiple characters.

Villanova Theatre presents Curtains: A Musical Whodunnit with music and lyrics by Kander & Ebb, directed by Villanova University President the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD, March 31–April 10. This production will pull out all the stops as it christens the proscenium-style Topper Theatre in the new John and Joan Mullen Center for the Performing Arts. 

Titanic the Musical opened on Broadway in April of 1997. The musical tells the story of the maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic, or what would soon be aptly named “The Unsinkable Ship.” However, as history tells us the ship sank on its maiden voyage on April 15, 1912. The 1997 Broadway production won five Tony Awards including Best Musical and was directed by Richard Jones. Following the opening of its Broadway run, Titanic was adapted for film and released the same year in 1997 by James Cameron starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Both of which the musical and film have no correlation to the other. Maury Yeston who was a Broadway composer and lyricist for Nine was inspired by the discovery of the wreckage of the Titanic off the coast of Newfoundland in 1985. Yeston said he was inspired by all the ship represented. So Yeston met with Peter Stone who wrote the libretto and Titanic the Musical was born. Of the five Tony’s that Titanic went onto win among them were Best Score, Best Book, Best Orchestrations, Best Scenic Design as well as Best Musical mentioned above. Previews started in 1997 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre and received mixed but positive reviews. After 804 performances, Titanic the Musical closed in March of 1999. Boasting a whopping 20 musical numbers in Act One and 12 in Act Two this behemoth of a musical is grand in design, and song. This musical also features a cast of 37 some doubling multiple roles. Proving to be a huge undertaking for amateur productions and professionals alike.

Produced by Danielle Tarento, Steven M Levy and Vaughan Williams in association with Mayflower Theatre, Southampton, the production will open at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley on 16 March 2023, 10 years since it made its critically acclaimed debut at Southwark Playhouse in London.
