Fresh off of being officially declared a genius by The MacArthur Foundation, Lin-Manuel Miranda took to Twitter this afternoon to announce his newest project, THE HAMILTON MIXTAPE.
HAMILTON creator Lin-Manuel Miranda has a dream that one day we'll be listening to showtunes on the radio again. He explained in a recent interview with Rolling Stone: 'You used to hear a Cole Porter song on the radio and then you'd go pay for a ticket to a Broadway show to hear that song in a show. If any cast album could afford to push the limit of that, it's this one.'
As a show intrinsically about politics, HAMILTON is a fitting Broadway show for America's presidential campaign season which is consuming our country.
Today's #Ham4Ham performance reportedly blocked the entire street in front of the Richard Rodgers Theatre due to the multitude of spectators, according to Twitter reports. The performers at the special event this afternoon were HAMILTON's Ariana DeBose with special guest Ryann Redmond (BRING IT ON).

On October 2, Wesleyan University will host a sold-out benefit performance of the much celebrated musical Hamilton at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Alumni Lin-Manuel Miranda '02, Hamilton star and creator of the book, music, and lyrics, and director Thomas Kail '99, are giving back to the university that helped launch their theater careers. The two previously collaborated on the hit musical In the Heights, of which Miranda wrote early versions while a student at Wesleyan.
HAMILTON is the biggest hit that Broadway has seen in a while, and in a recent Deadline article, Jeremy Gerard investigates the money that got the show on its feet at the Public Theater, and the money that the production has brought in since Broadway performances began. Gerard writes:
The rumors were true! As previously reported, Sir Cameron Mackintosh (producer of OLIVER!, LES MISERABLES, PHANTOM, MARY POPPINS, MISS SAIGON and CATS) plans to bring Broadway's box-office blockbuster HAMILTON to the West End in 2017. The Daily Mail now writes that Mackintosh is touring West End venues with producers Jeffrey Seller and Oskar Eustis next month, including WAR HORSE's current home at the New London through March 12, 2016.

The new musical Hamilton has book, music and lyrics by Tony and Grammy Award-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also plays the title role. The musical is directed by Thomas Kail, with choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and music direction and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire. Hamilton is inspired by Ron Chernow's biography 'Alexander Hamilton.' Meryl Streep just joined the long list of celebrities who have now seen the show, and BroadwayWorld was on hand to catch photos of the Hollywood living legend backstage with the cast!
