What did our critic think of AN EVENING WITH SUTTON FOSTER at Emerson Colonial Theatre?

The Kravis Center has announced its February lineup, featuring MJ and Kim’s Convenience. The month includes Broadway, classical concerts, cabaret, film, and family programming.

The Appell Center for the Performing Arts will soon present the Strand Theatre’s Centennial Celebration: An Evening with Sutton Foster & Kelli O’Hara with the York Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Lawrence Golan. This one-night-only celebration concert will take place on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 7:30 PM in downtown York’s historic Strand Theatre.

The word legend is tossed around quite a bit when talking about performers. Sometimes it’s true but many times it isn’t. This past Friday evening at Wolf Trap’s Filene Center two true modern day legends of musical theatre took the stage to pay homage to two all-time legends of entertainment.

Tony Award winners Sutton Foster (“Anything Goes,” “Thoroughly Modern Millie”) and Kelli O’Hara (“The King and I”) – each acclaimed as a Broadway performer and song-and-dance artist of the first order – are also known for solo concert appearances.

Foster possesses the uncanny ability to choose a set list from musicals and pop songs to reveal who she is as a performer. Is there anything that Sutton Foster doesn’t do well?

Fresh off her final set of performances in the L.A. transfer of the new Broadway revival of ONCE UPON A MATTRESS, the two-time Tony Award winning stage and screen star recently returned to Orange County, CA for a one-night-only sold out concert at the Irvine Barclay Theatre accompanied by music director Michael Rafter. Hannah Shankman will take over the role of Fanny Brice when the tour opens in Seattle on September 24th, 2024. She joins returning cast members Melissa Manchester as Mrs. Brice, Stephen Mark Lukas as Nick Arnstein, Izaiah Montaque Harris as Eddie Ryan, Walter Coppage as Florenz Ziegfeld, Leah Platt as Emma/Mrs. Nadler, Christine Bunuan as Mrs. Meeker, and David Foley Jr. as Tom Keeney.
