Falsely diagnosed with a heart condition as a child, she was home-schooled by her mother and kept at a distance by her germophobe father, forcing her to retreat into her imagination for amusement and company. Fast forward to August 1997 and she's working in a café in Paris, keeping herself to herself until she finds a box of childhood trinkets and becomes determined to reunite them with their owner. This sets her off on a mission to meddle in other people's lives a?' and maybe even change her own if she'll ever talk to Nino, who's fascinated by the identity of the mysterious photo booth man.

Guest Blog: Michael Coveney On Stephen Jeffreys' VALUED FRIENDS
by Marianka Swain - Oct 5, 2019

When the late Stephen Jeffreys' award-winning comedy Valued Friends opened at the Hampstead Theatre in 1989, one or two critics, suspicious of its brilliant structure and well-crafted narrative, declared it a?oesafea?? and a?oeold-fashioned' - by which they meant that the London fringe, or alternative, theatre had gone soft.

BWW Review: VALUED FRIENDS, Rose Theatre
by Aliya Al-Hassan - Sep 27, 2019

Our national obsession with property prices has a long history. Back in 1989, Stephen Jeffreys targeted the seismic social and financial changes of the decade with his play Valued Friends. A caustic commentary on Thatcher's Britain and the explosion of property prices, it was a hit when it premiered in 1989 at the Hampstead Theatre and earned Jeffreys Most Promising Playwright awards from both the Critics' Circle and Evening Standard. Michael Fentiman's brand new production at Kingston's Rose Theatre is the first revival of the play in thirty years and bristles with nostalgia, yet lacks real substance.
