The Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle announced the recipients of its 49th annual awards for distinguished achievement in theatre last night, Monday, March 19, 2018, at A Noise Within in Pasadena. Wenzel Jones presided over the festivities, and Christopher Raymond served as music director.

Due to demand, The New Group has announced a three-week extension for Jerry Springer - The Opera, with Matt McGrath appearing as Jerry Springer beginning March 13.  Terrence Mann, currently appearing in the role of Jerry Springer, plays his final performance March 11 due to an existing commitment beyond that date.

According to Variety, Jim Parsons has signed on to star and co-produce a film adaptation of Matthew Lopez's 2015 play, The Legend of Georgia McBride. Parsons will play veteran drag queen Tracey Mills- played off Broadway by Matt McGrath.

Today Keen Artistic Director Jonathan Silverstein announced that Steven Dietz's landmark play Lonely Planet would star Arnie Burton (The Government Inspector) and Matt McGrath (The Legend of Georgia McBride).  The design team will include Anshuman Bhatia (scenic), Jennifer Paar (costumes), Paul Hudson (lighting) and Bart Fasbender (sound).

Geffen Playhouse opened the West Coast Premiere of THE LEGEND OF GEORGIA MCBRIDE, now playing through May 14th.

We are still laughing, days after seeing the West Coast premiere of THE LEGEND OF GEORGIA McBRIDE at the Geffen Playhouse. The play with fantastic and ultra-flamboyant musical numbers will keep you laughing from beginning to end, centered on 'a wildly joyous story of empathy, of inclusivity, of community, of the potential for art to build bridges,' according to the Geffen's Artistic Director Randall Arney. Along with Mr. Arney, I send kudos to the six collaborators who have shepherded the play in its journey before arriving at the Geffen: playwright Matthew Lopez, director Mike Donahue, choreographer Paul McGill, cast member Matt McGrath, set designer Donyale Werle and sound designer Jill BC Du Boff so that L.A. audiences have a chance to celebrate the glory that stems from watching the best drag queen show since KINKY BOOTS.

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.), gala chair Priscilla B. Geeslin and Honorary Chairs Beth Behrs, Colman Domingo, Douglas Sills, and Denzel Washington have announced A.C.T.'s 50th Anniversary Gala, taking place on Thursday, April 27 at A.C.T.'s Strand Theater (1127 Market St.), The Costume Shop (1119 Market St.), as well as in a specially built supper club-style tented dining room between the two venues.
