Octet is now playing through June 30th in The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center, but creator Dave Malloy wants to make sure that the new musical lives on far beyond closing night. He just launched a Kickstarter to raise funds to make a cast recording! He writes:
SWELL is a music-theatre work that weaves together ten original avant-garde/new music compositions written by ten richly inventive composers drawing from their personal histories as immigrants and children of immigrants. Their unique, surprising, and deeply human stories are told through voice, piano, cello, and violin in this music-based contribution to the global immigration narrative.
Signature Theatre announced today that Octet, a chamber choir musical by three-time Tony Award nominee Dave Malloy (Natasha, Pierre, & The Great Comet of 1812) and directed by Annie Tippe (Ghost Quartet), will have a special benefit performance to support the Signature Ticket Initiative on Tuesday, June 25 at 7:30 PM.
This week, CYN unveils the official video for 'Holy Roller.' The Ally Pankiw-directed video sees CYN leading her devoted followers in a series of rituals against the backdrop of a retro-50s-inspired bowling alley. The video premiered on V Magazine, who championed the song for bringing 'an unexpected grit to her tender persona.' Talking about the video, CYN explains 'The video for 'Holy Roller' is truly a collaboration of all involved resulting in our version of a girl cult with a side of wink,' she continues. 'This video is meant to provoke some thought and definitely meant to make you smile! When I wrote the song, I was trying to relax and not take myself too seriously- the same goes for the video. I was aiming for something true to me, and this video hints at how I was raised and what I believe now.'
All in all, FOMO was a great show and the actors' work in this was anything but lazy. The storyline focuses on the variance of the happenings of the life of the youth that actually deepening into any of them intensively, which is a good choise. The Youth of the Group theatre enjoy being on a stage without a doubt, and so they're enjoyable to watch too!
