Rooftop Films launched with a single screening of short films in 1997. While we've since grown tremendously-hosting over 45 events across the city every summer, with live music and after-parties- we continue to showcase new short films and the innovative filmmakers who use the form to experiment, challenge and amaze audiences. This summer, Rooftop Films will present over 100 short films in 13 programs, with each program curated thematically.

Today, MUTEK announces the complete lineup for the festival's first foray into the United States, taking place in San Francisco this May, providing a full picture of how the festival will unfold. Beyond the 33 artists announced in March, MUTEK.SF is thrilled to present the North American solo live premiere of seminal techno innovator Moritz Von Oswald, known for his pioneering work (in collaboration with Mark Ernestus) as Basic Channel, Maurizio, Rhythm & Sound, and more. Live sets from Detroit techno-electro innovators Aux 88 and playful Chilean techno artist Matias Aguayo have also been announced. Building even further upon an already impressive local slate, Bay Area artists 8ULENTINA, Christopher Willits, DIBIA$E, Foozool, King Most, and Only Now have also been added to the festival lineup. A major initiative by The Royal Conservatory of Music was the formation a new ensemble of musicians created to celebrate the cultural diversity and pluralism of Canada during the country's sesquicentennial. It was conceived by Mervon Mehta, Executive Director of Performing Arts at The Conservatory. The ensemble, then known as theNew Canadian Global Music Orchestra, launched in Koerner Hall on June 2, 2017 and toured Canada with stops in Ottawa, Calgary, London, Guelph, and Montreal. It has now been renamed KUNE - Canada's Global Orchestra.
