Ladies of Soul Rule September with Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Oleta Adams, Jody Watley and Many More at Blue Note

September brings some of music's most iconic female performers including Motown stars Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Lady of Soul Oleta Adams and '80s icon Jody Watley. Local artists include the Honolulu Jazz Quartet, Henry Kapono presenting his Artist 2 Artist Concert Series featuring Blayne Asing, Elijah Sky and Mike Lewis's 2nd Annual Tribute to the Great City of New York. The Blue Note Comedy Series continues with comedian Esther Ku and '90s Alternative super group 10,000 Maniacs makes their Blue Note debut. We're celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with Eddie Ortiz & Son Caribe and Yvette Moore presents a tribute to Gloria Estefan. Stef Mariani's invites you to her album release celebration of 'Highway of Love' and local favorites Good Foot Hawaii! take the stage. The Hawaii News Now Jazz Legends Series continues with Keiko Matsui and Lightnin' Larry Dupio presents an eclectic night of traditional and original Big Island blues. Willie K returns, electric blues guitar powerhouse Robben Ford takes the stage and the month rounds out with singer-songwriter Jon McLaughlin.

Aisha Jawando To Lead TINA - THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL Beginning October 8

Aisha Jawando, who has been with the Company since its world premiere in Spring 2018, steps up to play the title role in TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL from 8 October 2019.  Having originally played Tina's sister Alline Bullock, Jawando has subsequently performed the iconic role of Tina at certain performances.

Showtime Documentary Films today announced it will premiere the new documentary HITSVILLE: THE MAKING OF MOTOWN from directors Benjamin and Gabe Turner (Class of 92, I Am Bolt, One Direction: This Is Us) on Saturday, August 24 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The remarkable story of the legendary Motown Records is told through new and exclusive interviews with the label's visionary founder, Berry Gordy, and many of its superstar artists and creative figures, as well as rare performances and behind-the-scenes footage unearthed from Motown's vaults and Gordy's personal archives. HITSVILLE: THE MAKING OF MOTOWN is the first documentary about the iconic label with Gordy's participation.

BWW Review: PICNIC POPS SALUTE TO AMERICA! at Grand Rapids Symphony

Twenty-five years ago in Grand Rapids, the Van Andel Arena still was on the drawing board. Meijer Gardens had opened just three months earlier, but it would be many years before an outdoor amphitheater would be built as a venue for summer concerts.   At Cannonsburg Ski Area, on a steamy evening in mid-July, the Grand Rapids Symphony launched a brand new, outdoor concert experience called the Picnic Pops.   This season The Grand Rapids Symphony celebrates its 25th Anniversary of its D&W Fresh Market Picnic Pops with a series of three shows that are all time favorites with Picnic Pops audiences plus a special event capping off four weeks of concerts at Cannonsburg.

Martha Reeves to Perform a Tribute to First Lady Betty Ford

Each year, to honor and celebrate the legacy of first lady Betty Ford, the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation hosts the America's First Ladies Luncheon Series. This year's presentation, “Inside the White House: Behind the Scenes of the First Lady's Office,” will feature Anita McBride, former chief of staff to first lady Laura Bush; Tina Tchen, former chief of staff to first lady Michelle Obama; and Chef Roland Mesnier, former White House pastry chef. 

Blue Note Hawaii Launches 'Blue Note Classics' Series

Blue Note Hawaii, the state's premier venue for the world's most celebrated artists, kicks off a new Blue Note Classics Series with three legendary performers - Motown vocalists Martha Reeves and Mary Wilson, and Latin fusion singer/guitarist Jose Feliciano. From Gaga To The Valkyries! The Ukelele Orchestra Of Great Britain Returns To The McCallum

The McCallum Theatre welcomes the return of the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain on Sunday, March 31, at 7:00pm. Since selling out the McCallum in 2016, audiences have eagerly awaited their return.With a repertoire ranging from Lady Gaga to "The Ride of the Valkyries," The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain tackles an ambitious range of music-on just four strings. This group of genre-benders performs covers (with vocals!) of pop, jazz, country, and classics from film, along with anything else they think is ripe for the picking. Formed in 1985, the group has become something of a national institution in the UK.

April Entertainment At The Orleans Features Legendary Ladies Of Motown And Rockabilly Weekend

The Orleans Hotel and Casino will bring celebrated entertainment to The Orleans Showroom in April, including the musical "Up, Up and Away" Starring Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. and Legendary Ladies of Motown Starring Martha Reeves and Mary Wilson. Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend will also return to The Orleans on Thursday, April 18 through Sunday, April 21.
